Chilliwack Lake

Description

Chilliwack Lake is a lake in the upper basin of the Chilliwack River southeast of the city of the same name in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada. The lake, while entirely within Canada, is located just north of the border between British Columbia and the state of Washington and is both fed and drained by the Chilliwack River, which has its source in the North Cascades of Washington state and Canada, which surround the lake on all sides.Parks and recreationChilliwack Lake Provincial Park is located on the lake's shores on the Canadian end of the lake. At the south end of the lake, there is a large beach, often a partying location, where the at-this-point-slough-like Chilliwack River enters the far end of the lake. There is also a trail that leads into an old growth forest along the river above the lake. It starts near the lake's far end. If you head off trail and ford the river, you can find the difficult trail to Hanging Lake.Road closuresThe road on the east side of the lake leading to its far end has been closed off to all but regular vehicles. ATVs and dirtbikes are not permitted on the road beyond the south boundary of Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park. In addition to that, the road has been decommissioned and gated at the bridge over Depot Creek due to vandalism at the far end of the lake.

Love this lake, very nice and clear water! My favourite is in the morning when the water is also super calm. It’s unfortunate that you can’t camp there, only in the campground but it has no view : Great Lake overall though
Amazing place to visit. The lake is beautiful but also very cold. Some nice hikes in the area and the campground there is great. There's also no cell phone signal until you are at least 30 minutes away from the lake towards the city of Chilliwack so keep that in mind.
One word — spectacular! This lake is only 2h away from Vancouver downtown. Can be a great day escape. Plenty of spots to camp, picnic. No problem in finding a parking too.
Got here bright and early and Kayaked around the lake. Plenty of parking in the morning, I was one of two people there when I got there around 7AM. Very beautiful lake. The other kayaker told me I should keep to the closer half of the lake as the wind can get bad and pretty dangerous on the far side. Much to my dismay I disregarded his advice and when I got to the far side of the lake the wind picked up and the waves flooded my kayak.. twice.. pretty scary ngl. But as soon as I made it around back to the area by the boat launch the water was calm and the shore was packed with people. Definitely recommend visiting. When I left around 3-4ish the beach was full of people and the parking lot and road in was lined with vehicles. All in all it’s beautiful, but it gets windy and really busy. Didn’t catch any fish there.
We went for an overnight camping last weekend, for the first time visiting there. Omg the water is super clear , compared to other lakes around except the glacier water , which they are too cold to swim in sandy a bit smaller beach area. We are cancelling a day trip to Seattle to go to this lake again this weekend before it gets cooler , so we can enjoy this beautiful, clean water more!!
Nice spot! boat launch is very steep to get to
Beautiful beach but quite small, be sure to go early to snag a spot. The campsites themselves were quite close together, we had to put a tarp to create more privacy between us and the neighbours.
We went there for quick peak as we are in the area. the lady in the entrance was super nice, just tell them for day use and they will let you pass. It was fully mark where to go,camping site and day use parking but we kina notice they let you park on side area which is quite far in the shore, so we didnt follow that and drive where the "boat launch" sign and there you go there is a small parking lot and 2mins walk from the shore, also there is a trail but we didnt do it,maybe next time in a nice clear weather.. But still the view of the lake and the mountain was gorgeous and unbelievable the color of the water. There is no picnic table near the shore so bring a beach mat or pop up tent and enjoy! Also there is a pit washroom near the parking area to use with hand sanitizer, its well maintain.
Did not realize how big the lake was! How serene and beautiful it was with snow capped mountains!
Breathtaking view Would definitely go back again!
