This is a follow up study and we are currently contacting patients who participated in the MFMU Network mild GDM trial at Christiana Hospital
This observational follow up study invites all women and children who previously enrolled in the mild GDM trial to enroll in this follow up study to examine whether different types of treatment in pregnant women with mild gestational diabetes decreases the risk of obesity in their children and examine whether factors during the previous pregnancy are associated with the mother's and child's health now.
Participation involves one follow up visit at the Women's Health Clinic at Christiana Care. The research nurses will evaluate the following:
Child/Maternal Data Collection:
Height and weight
Blood pressure and heart rate
Body size and thickness of skin
Biospecimen collection
Questionnaire regarding child's medical history, physical activity, puberty status, sleep patterns, diet and household environment.
To 1) examine whether different types treatment in pregnant women with mild GDM decreases the risk of obesity in their children aged 4.5-9 years and 2) examine whether factors during the previous pregnancy (such as the level of blood sugar during pregnancy) are associated with the mother’s and child’s health now
