Circleville Fire Department was originally founded in 1873.The original staff was six paid firefighters and worked a 6 day on/1 day off rotation. 127 South Court Street. It is now the current location of Circleville City Hall.
In 1888, another Circleville Fire Station was built at 147 East Franklin Street. This building served at Station #1 until it was closed in 1997. This building, due to years of constant use, had deteriorated and was razed in 1999.
In 1978, there was a recognized need to coverage on the south and west side of the City of Circleville due to railroad traffic. A former Shell Service Station was acquired and converted into a fire station. This building served as Station #2 for approximately 10 years. This building also was home to Circleville EMS.
The City of Circleville acquired a former auto shop located at 1220 South Court Street and converted the building into a fire station. In 1990, this station opened as Circleville Fire Station #2 and served the southern portion of the City of Circleville.
In 1978, Circleville EMS began as an all volunteer organization. The started with humble beginnings by staffing an EMS vehicle that was parked on the streets of Circleville. Circleville EMS eventually shared the station on West Main Street with Circleville Fire Department. Circleville EMS was a third service for many years. Through those years, Circleville EMS mostly remained a volunteer organization with having only two paid staff members who responded on EMS calls for service during the daytime hours.
586 North Court Street, which was opened in 2003. In 2005, Circleville Fire and Circleville EMS merged into one department.
Today, Circleville Fire and EMS is a combination department with 1 Fire Chief, 3 Shift Captains, 3 Shift Lieutenants, 9 full-time firefighters, 6 part-time firefighters and a volunteer staff. The annual call volume for the Circleville Fire Department is approximately 3200 fire and EMS calls for service.
