A really great experience for the whole family, no matter what the age. The venue is laid out perfectly and has a nice flowing waterway with a bridge walkway connecting the museum to the big tents, etc... The big tents have shows, there is also pony rides, an very cool elephant ride. There are multiple area with food. The restored vintage circus car museum is amazing and you can even watch restoration of vintage circus items and cars. This was a great experience!
Truly an amazing place to spend an entire day with the family or just adults. Historic & educational but also fun & entertaining for under $20. Included: 2 live big top shows daily, plus outside trapeze & aerial motorcycle thrill show. My favorite: a hanger size bldg with hundreds of restored highly decorated & carved Circus wagons & a restoration workshop showing works in progress. Also restored Circus buildings. Circus paraphernalia, such as posters, elaborate costumes, equipment, & models. There is a 1/4 scale detailed miniature model of a complete rail circus set-up that is huge. Indoor theater shows circus documentaries. Everything is labeled & explained; could not possibly read everything. Food, drink, & treats are available on the grounds. Carousel, elephant, & pony rides; obligatory gift shop as well. It is operated by the State Historical Society & is also a respected research resource. Highly recommend visiting this place.
It was well worth it. There was a lot of history and information. There was a great performance and park for the kids to play. The show was great the only thing that was extra was riding the elephants which both my girls did. All in All, an excellent end to our week long vacation.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$31+
Took our 8 year old to see this place. He liked seeing all the miniature replicas of the set up displays of the exhibits. It was a nice afternoon stroll with the family. The location also offers about a 20 minute theatre reel of how everything was started and where they traveled. Once you've watched it, you can proceed into the many displays in each foyer/ buildings. Be ready to walk. The craftsmanship and restorations of the wagons are worth seeing for yourself, the elaborate and intricate detail was very amazing to see, so much variety, you may however want to wear your mask because the room tends to be stuffy/dust. Be a kid again and jump on the carousel ride for $1 . If you have little ones there is a mini playground for them to play at. Find a good seat underneath the big top to watch the acrobats, clowns, cute K-9s acts.
Went with 1st graders and they all seemed to really enjoy it. The Circus @ Circus world was a bug hit amongst the crowd. The elephant rides were $15.00 and 2 circles around the elephant ride area. The 100yr old carousel is beautiful and costs $1.00. The way they persevered history was beautiful.
We decided to stop from our drive from Madison to Montana. I have a found fascination with the circus so this was a treat. However, we did not get to stay for the actually circus, as we spent so much time enamored with the exhibits and got to the museum in the afternoon. It was fascinating to learn about The Ringling Brothers and how they combined with Barnum and Bailey. It has the original buildings of the wintering grounds, collection of restored circus wagons, and a extensive exhibit of circus history. I would highly recommend stopping, but allow at least 4-5 hours if you want to see the actual circus. It will definitely bring out the kid in you.
Another big surprise! Museum is well put together with so much history and information. It was 88 degrees but still enjoyed the big top! Outstanding entertainment for all ages!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
Had a marvelous time at Circus World Museum! The displays are amazing. You can see costumes worn through the ages, many fine examples of Circus posters, and restored wagons from several American circuses, plus one from Europe. There are old and recent train cars to show you how they carried horses, etc on a train. At their biggest, Ringling Bros Circus had 100 train cars to transport the wagons, animals, staff, and Circus stars from place to place. It must have been amazing in those days to see 100 Circus train cars coming to town! I saw a band concert consisting of typical instruments used for Circus performances. I attended an Aerial Trapeze Show, it was fun to see them up close! I saw a Circus under the Big Top tent. The Circus was about 50 minutes long, and included several aerial acts, jugglers, dish spinners, a clown, a horse act, and an elephant act. They hold Circus performances only in the summer months, so check the beginning and end dates if you want to see a Circus under the tent. I was there for a total of 3 hours, and I wish I would have had more time to enjoy all the museum displays. The museum is located on the old "winter home" of the Ringling Circus. You will see many buildings that were used all winter long for preparing for the summer season, housing animals, costume department, and tools used to keep a Circus on the road. This is an amazing museum! For me, it was a wonderful way to spend a day. Highly recommend for Circus lovers!
This museum and circus are just wonderful! I really loved studying the old posters and signs in the museum. There's fun here for folks of all ages and interests! Definitely recommend a visit!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
This museum showcased the history of a variety of circus shows. There were original pieces and costumes from the shows on display. The exhibits also went over the history of the Ringling brothers. There are multiple buildings on the property and you must walk outside between each of them. On a rainy day this will be something to take into consideration. There were covered teams making their rounds to pick up visitors and bring them to various places upon request at no charge. There is a schedule that includes guided tours and shows on the property. One of the farthest buildings is easy to miss, it contains many of the old carriages and carts used to transport performers and animals. There are warnings outside this building to not enter if you are sensitive to mold. I would also suspect that there is lead paint used on the carriages, which would be consistent with the age. I would not recommend staying too long in this building if you can help it, but it is worth a run through. The carriages were my favorite exhibit to see. There were also many advertisements and lithographs used for the circuses. This was a large part of the museum and it was fun to see and read about individual performers. They also showcased how the prints were made and the process of advertising in cities. If I make any recommendation, it is not to place 50¢ in the large pipe organ at the entrance. It is incredibly loud and startling. It can be heard in the entire building and plays for longer than necessary. Enjoy how it looks, but don’t put your money in it!
