A school inspired by Waldorf pedagogy in mid Missouri with an intellectually rich curriculum that inspires creativity and self-discovery.
City Garden School has grown out of Garden Gate Preschool. We have been teaching a small group of children for the last few years (the Garden Gate Grades) and are now open for enrollment as City Garden School. For the 2014-2015 school year, we will have 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade.
We hold school from 8:45am to 2:15pm Monday - Friday.
Using a curriculum inspired by Waldorf education, we teach with much intention for the developmental place in which the children are. Here is some of what we do:
*All of our work is through art. The children learn to draw and paint, and they create their own "textbooks."
*We value time outside with one day of our week devoted to a complete outdoor day. We go to Rockbridge State Park or Three Creeks Conservation Area or the Mark Twain National Forest.
*Teachers tell stories to the children each day.
*We have language classes - currently German twice a week, and Chinese Culture Days once a month.
*We teach 1st graders to knit, 2nd graders to crochet, and 3rd graders to sew.
*Children learn the wonders of math through patterns, drawings, and stories.
*Children sing, play games, and recite verses each day, learning better hand-eye coordination, and left/right brain integration through movement and activity.
Children at City Garden School love to go to school! We allow children to explore many modes of learning with the goal of helping children discover who they are.
The City Garden School educates children in a method inspired by Waldorf pedagogy, which nurtures and develops the child’s senses, allows children to discover who they are, and supports each child’s creative capacities. We honor the development of each child by bringing age appropriate, multi-sensory materials in all subjects to them. We teach an intellectually deep curriculum that inspires creativity and critical thinking.
