the palm parking garage malfunctioned and ate my debit card. went to parking services the next day, they took down my name and phone number and told me they’d call when they got it out. almost a MONTH later i had not heard back, and went in person to see what the deal was. they sent me to slo pd, said cards get turned in there sometimes. walked over there, they told me that they in fact shred cards immediately. was basically told there was nothing parking services could do, so now i have to pay to replace my card that THEIR machine swallowed and THEY shredded. this is major bs, never have i had a more frustrating experience. slo parking services, i hate you!
If I could give no stars I would. So unfriendly so unhelpful. Our downtown is a hostile parking experience all around. Does the City of SLO want people to come downtown or not?
Little to no hours of access, basically no online support, no clear phone support, basically just a well functioning credit/debit card charging system. Perfect example of the City of San Luis Obispo unnecessarily harvesting funds via publicly shared property.
What is going on with this department? They seem to be actively giving out bad tickets hoping people will just pay. I ride a bicycle so I am not the one paying the price. But I see them ripping people off EVERY DAY. It is just terrible to watch as the management actively try’s to turn our town into a gentrified tourist trap.
Inaccurate policies, extensive procedures to fight the inaccurate charges, made me pay for a second commercial pass even though the other one was still valid because it was physically stolen. Ticket me when using commercial pass stating its over 30 minutes, even when it has not been. Over zealous ticketing to locals so they can pay for their new parking structure. I typically never have problems finding parking in parking structures so not sure what the big hurry is. Everyone is complaining about the new booths/intensity of a small town's perking enforcement. I could go on. Between this and the rent, if I were a small business Id consider leasing somewhere else in the city. Not everyone can bike or walk when working/spending money dt. Its a mess!
Why does the city pay employees to watch citizens pay for parking electronically? The employees pay no attention to customers difficulties with the automated parking system while traffic backs up. Then, only wanted to lecture me on being patient with the equipment that malfunctioned. Our tax dollars can be better spent.
The planters on the parking island by the Post Office on Marsh Street block the passenger doors of cars. Sure they make the island look nice and noticeable, but can't they be placed so that passengers can open the door to go into the Post Office also?
I’m sure I’m not the only person in Slo that feels the obsession with metering has gotten a little out of hand. At lease give us the quarter slots so we don’t have stand around punching our recently forgotten license plate incorrectly into a malfunctioning computer only to come back an hour later to find a ticket on our windshield because we put it in wrong happened to me. Just ponied up 40 for paying my parking spot incorrectly. Consider making slo a less worse place by not charging people to engage in commerce downtown. That would, well, a bit too logical.
I hate SLO parking. They are money hungry and love to give broke college kids fat tickets for parking behind their own campus. They make the community worse and love making locals unhappy.
First off, we have seen a reduction in parking citywide but somehow we have plenty of parking personnel around to provide tickets with a questionable quickness. With the shift in recent years toward ridesharing and food delivery services, the people of SLO are subjected to a downtown area that fails to accommodate these new trends...where is the leadership? Incident 1: Was issued a ticket after feeding the meter coins that apparently did not register and add time to the meter. Literally less than ten minutes later I return to a ticket on my windshield. I call into the office and tell them about the faulty meter. They verify the location and assure me I will not be charged if the meter was not working properly. After filling out their form to dispute the ticket, I am told that as long as the meter accepts either form of payment then it is working correctly. Wow. Called for the manager which was a total waste of time. This manager had a bad attitude, was dismissive, and lacked common sense. The issues start with this guy. Incident 2: Was parked illegally for less than 2 minutes and was given a ticket. My frustration here is that the parking meter guy thought he would give me a bonus lecture along with my $53 ticket! Thanks! But next time just write the ticket and piss off OR lecture me and do not write the ticket. No need for me to hear your mouth when all we need from you is that pen. The attitude from these folks is appalling but I really am not surprised. *Why is it that SLO fails to enforce infractions such as lighting on bikes and jaywalking but is all over the parking tickets? Headscratcher, right?*
