I am a part-time professional violinist. Recently, I took my 31-year-old violin there this month for a long overdue cleaning and upgrade on accessories. This instrument is my pride and joy, so I wanted to make sure it was in expert hands. I was very pleased when Stephanie took the time to listen to my questions and then bring one of the violinmakers over to look at the violin. He made recommendations for cleaning, adjustments, and the right kind of new accessories, and he made sure I understood his advice. They also did a beautiful job identifying and fixing a crack in my bow tip that I didn't know existed. The work was done two days sooner than they estimated, and my violin looks and sounds better than ever. They follow COVID protocols and were masking in the shop, for which I was grateful. I am delighted with the expert skill, fair pricing, and great customer service at Classic Violins!
After taking lessons at 'Classic Violins' shop for 10 months, and after developing a serious love for the cello, I decided it was time to purchase my own instrument. I investigated other local Chicago-land shops, but decided 'Classic Violins' was the best opportunity to acquire a quality instrument, specific for my needs. Stefanie and Palmen made the process amazing and professional. They procured 8 instruments for the trial, secured a professional cellist my teacher, and provided zero pressure while I made my selection although, providing espresso during the trial was a plus.... After two hours, my teacher, wife and I made the selection. Although, Stefanie indicated that I was free to take a couple of instruments home to play if I hadn't made my final choice. Again, no pressure! I am a 'Classic Violins' customer for life; and will use them for the care and maintenance of my cello.
Within the past year, I’ve purchased both a new violin and a new bow from Classic Violins. In addition, I’ve taken my instruments there for repair and service numerous times, and I’ve never been disappointed. The service is consistently exceptional. I always enjoy my conversations with the staff, who are friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. We’re lucky to have such a fine establishment in Mundelein, and it’s a privilege to support them 100%!
A wonderful store for all string lovers to visit. Special thanks to Antoaneta for her kindness and patience as She assisted me in finding the perfect cello bow!
I highly recommend this place. The lady who runs the place at front dest is very customer oriented. She is friendly and kind. It’s easy to communicate with this place and they help you find the best service at the best price
Classic Violins, the owners and the people who work there are second to none. Each time we use their services, we always have an outstanding customer experience and receive the utmost attention anyone can ask for. Our family is a regular customer with two young student musicians. We have both, rented and purchased musical instruments from them. The quality of their Bulgarian made rental violins and cellos is absolutely great and I wouldn't choose any other place. We recently purchased an Arcus carbon fiber bow from them and thanks to the amazing AntoinetteTony and her impeccable knowledge of violin bows, my daughter now has the perfect addition to her custom made violin. Tony was so patient and resourceful during our bow search and multiple trials, we never felt rushed and knew we were in good hands. The Arcus bow is worth every penny and then some.... Thank you Tony! Their Luthiers, especially Petio & Plamen, are very experienced and with their attention to detail, I couldn't trust anyone else with our music instruments. There is so many wonderful things I want to say about everyone at Classic Violins, nice, warm, and professional atmosphere. A family owned business that is big enough to know everything there is about their industry and yet small enough to know your name and what you need...Thank you Classic Violins!!!
I bought my first violin here and have had years of experience with this store prior to that life-changing purchase. The Classic Violin family cares so much about instruments and makes sure the customer is satisfied with what they are getting. The rapport has led me to bring back my violin for tune ups and not even risk going anywhere else, even when in college in Massachusetts; I would always wait to get all my violin and bow needs assessed here. It all started with a teacher recommendation and now my younger sister is beginning her musical journey with the best quality violin related items from the get go. Thank you for being awesome and consistent.
We were looking for a step up violin for my teenage son who has been taking lessons for a bit over a year. We spent months looking for violins in our price range through several violin shops. Each of the shops allowed us to take violins for a week, so that we can try them and show them to his teacher. Of the many shops we visited, we felt that at Classic, they cared about instruments. The violins are welled care for and kept in a controlled environment in their shop. Dana and Spencer showed us many beautiful instruments in our price range and violin bows as well. We were allowed to borrow them for several weeks. They were very patient and knowledgeable as they are both violinists. Everyone at Classic has been friendly and professional. You can tell they take pride in their work. Although we eventually found our violin from a different shop, I would recommend Classic violins to anyone who is interested in renting or purchasing string instruments. Thank you Dana and Spencer!
After renting a violin from Classic violins for a couple of years, we recently purchased a violin and bow from them. They have a generous rental credit option and a wide range of instruments to choose from. If you think you may end up purchasing a violin, I recommend that you rent from Classic Violins to take advantage of this credit and a quality instrument to learn on. The service has always been excellent, and the facility is very nice. When we were in the process of selecting items for purchase, the staff was very helpful and easy to work with. We spent a considerable amount of time trying violins there and at home before we settled on the right combination of violin and bow. We experienced no pressure or attempts to up-sell, and I believe our purchase was a good value. I live in Racine, WI, but the drive is easily worth it especially if you can work in a stop at Gurnee Mills.
From the point of view of a violin teacher, and performer, who has lived and worked on three continents, I can wholeheartedly say that Classic Violins is outstanding. I truly have been able to count on their expertise and superior artistry. I commissioned both a violin and cello to be hand-made, masterfully, from wood that was seasoned so well the resonance is other-worldly. This investment has proven to be excellent; I am very happy with the instruments and my family feels that we have priceless treasures. I used to be lucky enough to live within walking distance of their legendary multi-generational family business, and was able to help my students from nearby. Now that I am out of state, I know that I can still recommend them, and depend on their continued service; they are able to ship instruments and to take care of advanced students' needs as well as help the younger beginning students, or adult students whose instruments need repair and maintenance. They will always be my home away from home, and are worth the visit.
