Cleveland Lakefront Station

Description

Cleveland Lakefront Station is an Amtrak train station at North Coast Harbor in Cleveland, Ohio. The station was built in 1977 to provide service to the Lake Shore Limited route, which was reinstated by Amtrak via Cleveland and Toledo in 1975. It replaced service to Cleveland Union Terminal. Lakefront Station is a modern station located in downtown Cleveland near the Lake Erie waterfront, adjacent to the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway and in the immediate vicinity of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Great Lakes Science Center, the Steamship William G. Mather Museum, and FirstEnergy Stadium. The station has had little to no renovation since its opening., the only trains that stop at Lakefront Station are Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited and Capitol Limited trains, both of which arrive and depart between 1:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. The RTA Waterfront Line will stop at Lakefront Station, but only upon request. The Pennsylvanian served Cleveland from 1998 to 2003, when it reverted to its original Pittsburgh–New York route.

The Amtrack staff were super friendly and answered all my questions with patience I had this was my first Amtrack trip. It definitely could use a update but it was pretty clean and smelled neutral. I wasn’t sure about parking so I just parked in a public garage 1.6 miles away and took a Lyft. It was $17 on the way at 1am and a whopping $25 to pick us up at 3:30am to take us back to the garage + the cost of parking. Hindsight I would just leave my car in the Amtrak lot. It’s fenced in and is locked when Amtrack is closed.
It's a confusing location and not very up-to-date. The people working there are nice, but it needs renovation. Also, remember to head as if you are going to the Rock n roll hall of fame and turning right onto the shore way. It's confusing because you need to be on the highway to access the location. It is the second stop there, but it just says parking. There's a small amtrack sign near the rock n roll hall of fame to turn right, but it's hard to see. I just wish it was in a more central and modern location.
I traveled from Penn Station in New York City to Akron, Ohio. I took the Lake Shore Limited and then a bus from Cleveland... Instead of using the Beautiful Tower City station, they use this horrible "shack" that has stained carpets and dated facilities. Amtrak needs to fight more for offering decent service. Amtrak should even ask the City of Cleveland and State of Ohio for help, since they dont have the moneh... I don't blame Amtrak for having only early morning services in Cleveland and stopping at places where connections are hard... I blame em because they don't take the effort to improve the existing services over time, instead just settle for whatever exists in terms of facilities. When approach by car, don’t make your destination ‘Cleveland’. It will not lead you to parking lot. Rather choose Cleveland lakefront station or Amtrak Train station. Parking lot can only be approached from south marginal road which is a really strange entrance. You can’t get there otherwise even though you see it right in front of you. And recommend getting there early if it’s first time.
Retro station with baggage check facilities. Be aware that the entrance is kinda confusing and can only be accessed from the shoreway.
My train was scheduled to leave at 6:00 AM they canceled it the night before at 10:30 PM they woke me up and I had to scramble to find something new they had me on hold for 45 minutes there was nothing to signal me that I was even on hold no music no robot to tell me how many people are ahead of me just dead silence and the cancellation email gave almost 0 details and was not helpful at all. When they finally picked up and the lady was rude and not caring about my situation she said the best the could do was give me a train that left the next day at 2:00 AM a very unreasonable date and time for my situation she made it seem as though it was my fault and I asked to be comped $30.00 extra to cover a plane ticket they refused. I am surely never traveling again out of here and the whole process seemed sketchy for something that’s legit their website feels incomplete as well I’d honestly give it 0 stars if I could
There is freaking entrance and no update on google or website regrading where the hell is station and it’s closed or open I wasted my whole day to locate fu… entrance. Not recommended at all
I like the fact that’s it’s not busy and frantic but I have to wonder if Amtrak hires anyone to take care of the place. Given the low volume of passengers coming through this place it makes me wonder if they ever clean it at all. Wondering if Amtrak staff takes any pride in their work? What’s up?
I agree with others that the station needs some TLC. The parking lot should be done asap while there is still time before winter. Generally a pleasant experience, just could be better. I hope they fix it up.
The worst way to travel EVER! It took my girl 13 hours to come from Battle Creek, Michigan to Cleveland, Ohio. The Greyhound was only 9 hours and $125 cheaper. NEVER USE THE AMTRAK!!!
