With unsurpassed views of the Mississippi River visible from every room, Clifton House is one of the crowning jewels in Starlings Hotels' Collection. Clifton House takes its name from "Clifton," an Antebellum home owned by the Suget family that originally stood nearby until it was destroyed toward the end of the Civil War. A Yankee officer, John Moulder Wilson --insulted after he was not invited to a party at the home -- ordered its demolition with explosives. The structure now proudly bearing the Clifton name is a 1904 American Foursquare listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Clifton House underwent a total renovation in 2017 to create a smoke-free environment with only the finest luxury features – Carrara marble kitchen and bathrooms, high-end appliances, beautiful wood floors, original art, fine furniture, antiques and accessories. The home now has five suites – two with king-sized Tempur-Pedic™ beds and Peacock Alley linens, and three with walk-in showers and teak seating. Observatory, our attic suite, has two sitting areas, one with comfortable swivel rockers to enjoy an unsurpassed view of the Mississippi, and another with a Queen-size sleeper sofa, permitting this suite to sleep four.
Clifton House fronts on Natchez's world-famous "Bluff Path." Enjoy magical sunsets from our wide front porch. Go to sleep watching the twinkling lights of the "Golden Gate of the Mississippi", the Natchez-Vidalia Bridge. Our location allows convenient access to all that Natchez has to offer and is just steps from downtown shopping, restaurants, museums, parks, and Antebellum mansion tours.
In the Stowers' family since 1930, Clifton House authentically reflects the love the family has had for this home overtime. When the first generation moved in, they brought Victorian antiques, which were lovingly restored and reupholstered during the renovation. Each subsequent generation has added their own modern-day touches, making this B&B the truly gracious place it is today.
