Cloud 9 Farms is a small family farm and herd share dairy in Penrose, Colorado. We operate on approximately 5 acres of irrigated farm land in an area with an average of 351 days of sunshine per year. Our focus is on producing nutrient dense food in a system that is beneficial to the humans, the animals and the land. All of our animals are on pasture or free ranged. We use no GMO feeds, no hormones, and no synthetic fertilizers. We care for our animals like family to make sure they are healthy and comfortable.
The foundation of our operation is our small herd of Brown Swiss and Jersey dairy cows. Our cows are rotationally grazed on irrigated pasture from early Spring through late Fall. They have free access to fresh water, minerals and salt at all times. During the Winter they are supplemented with alfalfa grown on our farm and grass hay from leased, local farms. We practice low-stress livestock handling and believe happy, healthy, loved animals make healthy, nutrient dense food.
We keep free ranged chickens for eggs year round, and seasonally pasture a high altitude broiler chicken for meat. We consider our chickens to be beyond organic, and actually regenerative to our land. The chickens spend their days processing compost and scratching in the pasture, with free access to the entire farm. They also have free access to non soy, non GMO feed and fresh water at all times.
Some things that are in the works: truly raw honey (bees arrive Spring 2015), no spray fruit orchard (planted 2014) and pastured turkeys.
We welcome farm visits and encourage customers to get to know all of the farm’s inhabitants. Please contact us to set up a time.
