"At the age of 36, I have a strong passion for the club business and a relentless need to dominate this competitive and demanding market. Having grown up across North America, I studied Marketing at Scottsdale College and at an early age realized my passion for bars. Considering my large stature it was a natural idea to start this journey as a doorman at Crobar, an after hours club in Phoenix, Arizona. There, I was groomed by owner Steven Rogers, whose career started at the legendary Studio54. Under his guidance, I learned some of the very basic and essential skills of handling the public, resolving issues, VIP hosting, and club hierarchy. With my new-found success and experience, the owner transferred me to a sister club in the position of Assistant to the General Manager where I received my introduction to the experiences of management responsibility. Having to address marketing issues, material concerns, employees and suppliers, all became part my world. The club business came into focus and my future had started.
I was recruited to a large-scale nightclub called Freedom which hosted Kind Fridays. The biggest names in the DJ world at that time were performing at Freedom on a weekly basis. Names such as Paul Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk, and Sasha & Digweed in the electronic scene, as well as hip hop headliners such as 50 Cent (as seen in the "Beef" Documentary performing on our stage) and Cashmoney Millionaires. During this period, I was placed in charge of the Kind Fridays’ 4 year anniversary guerrilla marketing campaign. While being involved in the upper management, I was part of the team that produced and promoted what became known as the largest Electronic music event in the history of Arizona, Super Kind 4. This is a significant example of my abilities in development & execution.
Shortly after, I was recruited to 6 Lounge, a high end lounge that specialized in the VIP experience. It was a hangout place for stars and celebrities, real estate brokers and other high end wealth of Phoenix. My main responsibility was to create relationships with VIPs and to keep them coming back. In addition to my regular role of defusing customer issues, I began using various forms of media to my advantage in order to produce hype around the type of clientele we had all the while keeping the space up to the highest standards.
I was later recruited to a new club in town called NEXT in the position of Assistant Floor Manager where I was groomed to handle all the responsibilities of running and maintaining what became the most successful nightclub in Scottsdale, Arizona. It was here that I assisted in the organizing, promoting and managing one of the largest privately owned parties in the Southwest, the Scottsdale Block Party, with approximately 12,500 in attendance inside, and roughly 3000 outside. Following this success, electronic music slowed down to a halt and hip hop took over in the Southwest. Because I was able to see the change in trends coming, I wasted no time in adjusting the club accordingly. It was during this transition that I teamed up with people involved with Swizz Beatz and Ruff Rider Records through their affiliated company Liquid Entertainment. With this appealing combination, NEXT became the most exclusive hip hop club in the Southwest of the United States, with clientele such as Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Mike Tyson, LeBron James, Shawn Marion, Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire to name a few.
After losing my legal sponsorship in the US, I returned to Canada in 2007. Upon my arrival in Montreal, the motivation to apply my hard fought experiences of the previous years drove me to join three others in opening a private dance club on St. Laurent called Coda Social Club. At Coda, we positioned ourselves to be at the forefront of the underground electronic music scene with acts such as Justice, Steve Aoki, and James Murphy. As managing partner and alongside our skilled team of partners, the club developed an incredible reputation in underground music, and hosted some of the best in local and internationally known DJs which helped make it a success. My run with Coda was short but successful. Because of liquor license complications and landlord issues, I unfortunately had to make the decision to leave the club.
Because of the credibility I gained from Coda in Montreal, I joined up at my current location, Le Belmont, with the goal of saving the business. It has been almost 4 years since I first took the reigns at the then 25-year-old club. In my first year I increased sales by 27%. I gave it a new direction as a hybrid venue/nightclub and brought my relationships with established promotional companies into the mix. I also groomed a whole new generation of promotional companies, monthlies, and weeklies for the benefit of the club. Since taking over, Belmont has four times been voted by the public as the best club in Montreal because of its position as a multifunctional space. The greatest key to Belmont's success, however, has been the ability to create an enthusiastic community. This strategy has cultivated an army of club goers who preach our brand which had spread across a multitude of scenes and musical genres."
