Coleman Law, P.C. opened in March 2011. I practice law in Lake and Cook Counties. As a former prosecutor, I defend individuals ranging from juveniles to adults. I proudly have been a certified mediator since 1998, which led me to become a Collaborative Law Fellow with the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois ("CLII"). Mediation and Collaborative Law are great ways to resolve matters outside of Court where a client is able to receive specific and creative agreements as compared to having a Judge determine the outcome. Unfortunately, Mediation and Collaborative Law are not for everyone and as such, I litigate those cases, taking cases to trials, if necessary. I proudly am also a Child's Representative and a Guardian Ad Litem for both family law cases (divorces, post decree matters, and Paternity cases). As a Guardian Ad Litem, I am the Court's witness, investigating for the Court pre and post decree Domestic Relation cases. As a Guardian Ad Litem in Probate Courts, I investigate, as the Judge's witness, both juvenile and allegedly disabled people. Aside from practicing Domestic Relation matters by way of litigation, Mediation and/or Collaborative Law, I also represent parents in DCFS matters. Additionally, I represent residential and commercial Landlords for either preparing Leases, contracts and when tenants do not pay rent, which results in my commencement of the eviction process. After a Judgment is obtained against tenants, I continue to represent my clients as it relates to collecting upon said Judgments. Finally, I represent individuals and businesses from small business up to large businesses, including but not limited to being contracted out by a NFL organization for various legal aspects, such as representing individual players, former players, and to meet whatever the legal needs thereabout, which also includes representing them in aforesaid cases in addition to preparing contracts, attending Arbitration Hearings and/or litigation. I practice law in the Circuit Courts as well as the Federal Courts. I hold special certifications in the field of Domestic Violence, including but not limited to representing both Petitioners and Respondents in Orders of Protections cases, a/k/a "Restraining Orders". Finally, I also am retained on various cases based upon long-standing clients. I greatly appreciate my clients and understand their emotions during a difficult time in their lives, even if only for a speeding ticket. I do not consider my clients to be "cases" but people who need legal services for various types of the aforesaid mentioned laws. Lastly, I am honored to be either a key note speaker for certain organizations, businesses, and/or groups. I also enjoy presenting various topics of the law as well as participating every May for Law Day, a special time where I attend a schools' class(es) to teach children of all ages about the law, the topic that is selected each year, and to do more of a question and answer presentation. I belong to the International Academy of Collaborate Professionals ("IAC{"), Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois (:CLII"), Illinois Bar Association, Lake County Bar Association, and has sat on the Board of Directors for the Academy of Women Attorneys in Lake County ("AWALC").
