We are family of Colonial Heights Band & Color Guard students (both middle school and high school), former students, and family of former students.
What groups do we assist? We help out the Marching Colonials, the Colonial Heights Symphonic and Concert Bands, the Colonial Heights Indoor Guard, and any other student group that is a part of the Colonial Heights High School or Colonial Heights Middle School band programs.
What do we do as boosters? We work as a team to provide things the band needs that are not provided by the annual school budget. We provide manpower to get the band to and from competitions, on and off the field. We help chaperone band events and field trips. We raise money to pay for clinicians, coaches, uniform maintenance, competition registration fees, travel expenses, sheet music, and to repair and replace equipment and instruments. We act as staff to host district events and run concessions at J.V. and Varsity sports during football, basketball, and soccer seasons.
When do we meet? We have a monthly meeting typically the second Monday of each month during the school year starting at 7 pm in the high school band room. In September, the meeting will be held on the third Monday, September 15, starting at 7 pm due to the high school Meet the Teacher night. We don’t have a formal meeting during June, July and August. At these meetings, you will find out about the band and guard program and learn about upcoming events, fund raisers, and band functions. You can also have a voice in the decision making process.
How do we communicate? Besides our monthly meetings, we have a email list that you can subscribe to (see the following page). We also post information (as well as pictures, student band account points, and other useful items) on our website: www.colonialheightsband.org. Finally, you can contact the president using the contact info at the bottom of the page.
What about fundraising and how does that help me? Almost every fundraising event we have allows students to earn money for their own band accounts. The remaining balance goes to the general booster fund used to support the band program overall. The more money a student earns, the less money comes from Mom and Dad when trips and other band expenses arise. The more the boosters make for the band, the less we have to require of each student when we don’t have enough to cover all expenses. Many schools are now starting to require “pay to play” fees just to be a part of band – some groups charge a mandatory amount of $100 or more – something that we are going to avoid if at all possible.
How can you help us? Attend our monthly meetings, attend as many of your child’s band activities as possible, participate in band fund raising events and activities and put
