What a fantastic spot! This launch point has the most wildlife I've seen on a tour AND is by far the darkest to make the bio that much more enjoyable! Our tour guide, Drew, is an absolute asset with his NASA knowledge as well. If you get lucky and book your tour in conjunction with a rocket launch ... you're in for a treat! You'll have front row seats to best light show in and out of the water!
We had the perfect morning kayaking! The views were beautiful. Our guide, Kerry, was very knowledgeable and down to earth. We enjoyed our time with him.
We met for a bioluminescent kayak adventure at Boat ramp 42, turn by the dome, in the Merrit Island Wildlife Refuge. After meeting Chaz and crew we were smoothly checked in, given safety equipment and given a quick safety/kayak 101 lesson we were off. Chaz took charge and gently herded group to our first spot. The crew was careful to watch the group for anyone who needed help. The bioluminescence was unreal and really neat under the clear hulls of the kayak a worthwhile upgrade. Chaz is deeply knowledgeable about the refuge and the plankton that creates the glow. This is worth a yearly trip. One word of warning, if you are solo you will be in a solo kayak. If you are unfamiliar with the water it is doable but you may want to bring a friend.
Our family of 3 had a fantastic experience. We took the night tour with the clear kayaks. Chaz, Savannah and Jonathan were great tour guides, ensuring the entire group had a wonderful experience. We absolutely recommend this unique adventure for people of all ages.
My best friend and I took the tour for her birthday in October. We love outdoor activities like this and being able to kayak in protected area of beautiful inlet was a special opportunity. First I have to say READ YOUR EMAIL, the suggestions that they provide for how to get to the launch site as well as how to protect yourself from the mosquitos and other pests is super helpful. Second the tour guides are very informative so even if you've never kayaked before you and your family people young and old can enjoy this trip, they will give you quick instructions on how to paddle, steer, and stop before you launch and if you have any problems which we did they'll be closer by to quickly get you back on course. They will also give you lots of information while on the tour, so ask questions and be ready to learn! We went on one of the best nights of the season so said the guide and we're able to clearly see comb jellies, fish that jumped out of the water, and a few dolphins that swam along side us as we played in the bioluminescence. We were also treated to a view of the Milky Way because of how clear the sky was! I will never forget such an awesome opportunity and will recommend A Day Away for anyone looking for a great ecotour.
We had a blast! A manatee came up to our kayak, dolphins played in front of us, and the bioluminescence was amazing. Chili was our guide and he was very informative. Ashley and John were additional guides and very friendly. I recommend going in July or August during a new moon.
Your was so neat !! And the company was super organized ! Guides: Even with a big group they had clear instructions and plenty of guides to help they had one in the front leading , one in the middle, and one in the back.. he would gather all the kayaks a few times along to confirm he had all kayaks in our group and give us information on the areas we are in , what causes the blue glow, and what we should look for. They really do make you feel safe ! I had my niece she was younger not paddling a lot and the guide in the back said if I got tired he would pull us for a bit if I needed which was super sweet. They help you get in and out of kayaks which I needed lol Water: was pretty !def glows - we did go at one of the peak weekends. There is mosquitoes so bring your bug spray. Wasn’t too bad on the water but we did have some wind at spots which helps keep them down. But before we got moving on water we needed it. We saw dolphins, a manatee, and fish- other parts of the group saw crabs and an alligator. While wild life isn’t guarantee and not everyone in the group catches the sights but just relax put the phones away or you will miss stuff. Overall: I had lots of fun and it was great !! Def can’t wait to take my personal kayaks out we went on the tour as it was our first time and I brung my nephew they supply life vest and whistle. Loved the blue glow stick and how they use it makes it super easy to stay with your group !
My mom wanted to do this kayak tour, so she signed us up. I didn't get a chance to do any research, so I really didn't know what to expext. It was so cool! It was the perfect night to go out starting with a nice sunset, a light breeze and a half moon. I'm bummed that we couldn't take pictures because it's hard to describe to someone else. Our guide was very knowledgeable and kept a good pace allowing us time to enjoy the experience and view the Kennedy Space Ctr launch pad. I just we could have stayed out a bit longer. Give yourself plenty of time to get there. It's quite a ways out on the island.
Being a realist I was very skeptical about this adventure. But hands down I was extremely impressed! It was a great experience! We saw manatees, dolphins, and the bioluminescence. Seeing the aquatic life swimming in the water with the bioluminescence was awesome! Not to mention our guide Brie was very passionate about the tour and very knowledgeable about the area and the animals! I would recommend to everyone to go! Can’t wait to book again!
Manatees, dolphins, birds, sunset and luminescence, oh my! This tour had it all. If you haven’t done a luminescence kayak tour, you need to. Tanner was an amazing guide as was Cat. Other tours seemed like they had bigger groups, but I liked the small group atmosphere and the day to night tour. I definitely recommend Day Away and Tanner!
