Located in the heart of downtown Lamar in the Historic Lamar Railroad Depot. 109 E Beech Street, Lamar, CO 81052
In the Wild West fashion, during the dark of the night, the original Train Depot was stolen from down the road and brought to Lamar. The men were hoping Lamar would be a train stop and possibly become the County seat. The dishonest plan actually worked and Lamar was founded in 1886. The 1907 Train Depot was built to replace the original one. On the grounds are a historic 1906 Steam Locomotive along with a water tank and windmill. The Historic Train Depot is home to the Colorado Welcome Center. It is a quaint quiet stop, enjoy a cup of coffee and plan your Colorado Trip with maps and brochures covering the entire state. Tree shaded walking path, picnic areas, informational kiosks, clean restrooms, as well as 24 hour WiFi are provided to make your journey even more enjoyable. One of the 12 Madonna of the Trail statues is on the Colorado Welcome Center property, this statue honors the pioneer mothers of the covered wagon days on the Santa Fe Trail. Not often would you be able to touch one of the massive wind turbine blades, but there is one on the front lawn of the Colorado Welcome Center for touching and picture taking! Lamar is proud to be home for the first "planted" wind farms. A very large and convenient parking lot is across from the Welcome Center making it easy for large trailers and RV's to park. The car charging stations located on the east end of the Welcome Center parking lot are easily accessible as well. The Colorado Welcome Center in Lamar is the perfect place to stop, relax and stretch. Located in the heart of the City's downtown, shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance. Information concerning weather, road conditions and travel ideas are always available from the friendly volunteers. Come visit us! Helping make your trip memorable makes us smile!
This is a State operated welcome center managed by director Leslie Stagner with her group of 28 volunteers.
