Compton Hill Reservoir Park

Description

Compton Hill Reservoir Park is a 36acre public park located in the Compton Heights neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, USA. Located on one of the highest elevations within the city, the park surrounds a 28e6USgal reservoir used to provide water for many of the city's residents.HistoryJames P. Kirkwood selected the site of the reservoir, one of the highest elevations within the 1855 city limits. As the reservoir occupied only of the site, Kirkwood suggested the remaining land be turned into a park. The top of the reservoir structure was at one time covered with elevated tennis courts; presently, two newer tennis courts lie to the east. The water tower was retired in 1929, after 30 years, when the Howard Bend Plant was put in service: the static head from the Stacy Park Reservoir, in what is now the St. Louis suburb of Olivette, Missouri, caused an overflow of pure chemically treated water into the sewer system. The reservoir and water tower were renovated, in 1999, at a cost of $19 million. In 1969, Interstate 44 was constructed through the northern edge of the park, reducing the area of the park to its present size.

Absolutely LOVED this park. The walking paths are lovely, it is well kept and tended. There were Park rangers in duty while I was there. A nice relaxing atmosphere to get some exercise, have a picnic, read a book etc.
I walked in this park after work today. It's always nice and quiet. On one side it has a tennis court, playground and swing set. On the other side it has the Tower and a nice pond. There's several benches to rest on. There's a nice paced walkway that goes throughout the entire park. There's a dog park located near the playground, but the sign said you have to have some type of membership. You may have to be a home owner in the surrounding neighborhood, but I'd suggest to contact the City of St. Louis to inquire. You can still walk your dogs here and there's doggie stations set up with supplies just in case your doggie takes a poop. This is a family friendly park for all to enjoy. The Tower is actually a museum that's open certain weekends throughout the summer. It's no more than $5 for entry and I've been once. It's very nice, but hot inside the Tower. It takes maybe 15 minutes to get to the top, but once you do, there's a beautiful view of the City. So have your cameras ready.
Nice, quiet, and peaceful park in St. Louis. The walking trails are on some small hills on the side facing Grand Ave.
Quiet and smallish but lovely park with nice walkways, lots of benches, and multiple stone stairs. We spent part of the day sledding down the central Hill and it was perfect.
Drove by many times and finally stopped. The water tower is a St. Louis iconic landmark. Beautiful sculpture dedicated to German immigrants.
Cute park. Clean and easily accessible. The playground equipment is pretty standard but in decent condition. There is also a walking path that wraps around the water reservoir if you want to take a quick walk and see the water tower and decent views of the Arch. Negatives are that its somewhat noisy, being right off of I-44, and as previously mentioned, its not different than most other playgrounds these days. However, if you are a parent with young children who playground hops for a change of scenery, its worth checking out.
Beautiful park, been there for years! My grandfather proposed to my grandfather there! A great place to take a walk or sit on the bench in front of the watertower. A great place to prepose!
Cool park with nice path around it and a good playground
The Park's pretty nice wouldn't give it an extremely high braiding because of the park workers are extremely rude but other than that not too bad the people that come here are usually pretty upstanding and polite I haven't had much issues here as far as anybody in the park
Wonderful little park to walk the babies and get some fresh air
