Shurikan means: Place/Home of Shuri. Shuri referring to the ancient city of Shuri in Okinawa, and most importantly the location of Shuri Castle, where both were highly influential in Shuri-Te (and Tomari-Te) and soon to be Tote/Karate. Which eventually became Shorin Ryu.
