Might as well change their name to "Customer Calls, Say Two Weeks". Unless you have a contract that puts firm dates on everything, avoid this company. They ignore your contacts, fail city inspections, and then try to pass blame off to everybody else in the process. They even claimed that their plans needed to go through a 3rd party engineer for approval before submission to the city, which indicates to me that their high-minded website copy about their system engineering expertise is nothing but talk, since the real engineers don't work there. I entered a contract with them in January, with the understanding that it would take 90 days to complete. 90 days has come and gone, and I am still waiting on inspections and permits, and am paying for a system that does absolutely nothing. In the meantime, they will do nothing to make me whole. 2 years on, I found that their electrical contractors used non-NEC wire nut splices from my aluminum branch wiring to copper extensions that they used to move breakers around in my breaker box. I found this out when one of the splices on a neutral failed and bridged itself to a hot. After melting and catching on fire inside the box see pictures, their response was to send me a copy of my inspection report upside down and impossible to read and tell me now going on a week ago that they'd "make a work order". In the meantime, there are at least 10 other aluminum-to-copper splices waiting to fail under non-NEC wire nuts. By cheaping out on wire nuts, this company exposed me to the potential for a house fire. I can't recommend them less than I do now.
I, unfortunately, felt the need to cancel a project to add on to my current system. In contracting for this add on, I was hoping for a better customer services experience than that of my original install. My experience in both cases was lack of all contact after payment of deposit and then reply to communications sometimes delayed by days. In expectation of problems with this project, I had a timeline written into the contract. CST was unable to meet this timeline. After a month of waiting, and another promise for install that was not made, I gave up. At least the Positive Solar Energy was honest about a likely 6 month wait for install date. All staff are very pleasant to converse with WHEN this actually happens. Politeness can't make up for failed promises and action. Based on other similar reviews, it appears that CST still has quite a bit of work to do on project scheduling and customer communication.
Well, when the rubber hits the road....as they say...That's when you get a "true measure" of a company! After 4 1/2 years my inverter a SunPower product went bad!! NOT good!, as without this NONE of the power being produced by the Solar Panels Installed by CST Solar is going to the "grid" to credit my account as far as power produced or REC Credits. So I called CST and yes they came out and trouble shot the system and YEP, the inverter needs to be replaced!! Yep all the PRIME SOLAR hours of SUNLIGHT that is going by on my panels is for NADA. So, fine, I said to myself, let's check CST Customer service! Sure, it's really not that much...when all is said and done my system should be "down" for about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks...I'll be missing all that power generation "opportunities." The incredibly sad thing is that it really would not be that much for CST to say "What do we have to do to make things right?" I'm not asking for a million dollars, just the amount that I'm missing by not generating power when the equipment CST Solar installed and is not OUT OF SERVICE pending a TOTAL replacement of the inverter. CST is CLEARLY not in the business of making satisfied, happy customers. Lori in the office is not reasonable at all, nor easy to work with. My bottom line is this....do your research when investing in a company to install solar on your home. It's a big big investment that you want good customer service before and AFTER the SALE. In my opinion, CST Solar is not worth it!! There are other SUNPOWER dealers in the New Mexico area and having it to do over, I would probably go with ANOTHER dealer.
I purchased a 54 panel 11k, three inverter system from them in 2014. Since then I have had a cracked solar panel, failed inverter, and three malfunctioning arc fault breakers. However, In each case they responded effectively and resolved each and every problem to my satisfaction. Additionally, after the initial installation was completed, I sent my electrical guy up to the attic to examine the installation of all 130 feet of wiring they put in the attic from 3 different roofs from 6 strings of panels. Everything was found to be properly done. My solar system continues to perform as expected to this day.
Customer service is nonexistent, I have called several times about issues and never get a response. Our sales guy was awesome but after 4+ years of having the panels, one of our power inverters is bad and they have not returned my calls. Looks like a call to the BBB and the State Attorney Generals office is need as some others have done. People really need to complain about these business and let others know so that others wont fall for the lies about CST's so called excellent service and warranty. where are you CST??? I am losing money by the HR because of you.
I have only had my system for a few months, but so far it is performing as expected. I went with the high end Sunpower panels due to better quality, reputation, and guarantee. Salesman and installation crews did a good job, though they did have to come back and resolve an issue that they caused during installation. This could have been prevented by better internal communication, which was lacking in multiple areas.
My system was installed several years ago but over the past 4 months I have been having problems with the Enphase inverters installed with the system. CSG claimed that they would be monitoring output and fix any issues when they were to arise. This has not been the case. I was never contacted neither did anyone make an attempt to fix the issues. My output was over 100 kwh below the monthly average. I started seeing bills from the power company. This is not normal. Now there are 2 more inverters not working properly even though I called CSG last month for support. They came out and stated that the problems would be fixed remotely and if not they would contact Enphase and request for parts. I had to call again today because they dropped the ball.
Our Solar monitoring system shows only 4 of 6 panels are working. It also reflects on my PNM bill. I have contacted CST in several occasions to come look at the inverters on the panels. The answers I get are, “I can’t make it down to look at your system” or “your panels are working fine.” This is the worst company I have ever dealt with and I’m filing a complaint with BBB..
CST Solar Technologies sold me a solar photovoltaic system that they "guaranteed" performance on. The system installed, after two years, produces 60% of the guarantee. CST Solar Technology's guarantee consists of reimbursing the cost of power you had to purchase commercially, that their system did not produce. Under this guarantee, if the CST system produced no electricity whatsoever, the guarantee would reimburse 1/3 the cost of installation. The sales contract prohibits recourse at law, requiring that you go to arbitration. Caveat Emptor. CST is a terrible company that does not live up to its promises.
I wanted to provide an update. After the below noted attempts to fix the system it was repaired and everything is working properly and has been for an extended period of time. The service tech and customer service rep made every effort within their ability to make the situation right. To date I am pleased with the resolution and reflected it in my review. I strongly suggest you research other options before going with this company. The process to get the system is easy enough but I have had nothing but issues with the system since it has been installed. I have had it now for 2 years and they have been out to my house at least a dozen times for repairs. The most recent outage couldn't be repaired because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with the system to no fault of the repairman . However its been over a week since he left and the company has not phoned or contacted me at all to resolve the issue not to mention I have emailed them twice to ask about the status of the repair. Suffice to say to date the system is not working and they have never honored the compensation they guarantee for under production as they state in the contract.
