Defending the 7th Amendment right to trial by jury in civil matters and working to maintain access to the legal system for all Californians, not just the wealthy.
Our mission is to promote the public good through the civil justice system. Consumer attorneys have led efforts to hold the tobacco industry accountable for misrepresenting the health effects of cigarettes, to make vehicles safer, to protect individual privacy, to defend wage-earners against bosses who would exploit them, and to help working people whose life savings have been ravaged by Wall Street greed. CAOC was founded in 1961 to provide continuing legal education to its members that is required by law. The association also plays an advocacy role with elected officials and the general public, encouraging and promoting changes to California law by legislative, initiative or court action, opposing injustice in existing or contemplated laws, and seeking to correct unjust and oppressive legislation or judicial decisions.
