I stopped by the Cookeville Mall yesterday 9/27/16 to visit C & G's Mountain Music to find that they have thankfully moved out of the mall. Continue driving down S Jefferson Avenue past Neal Street. C&G will be on the right-hand side of the road next to Subway, just past Fuji Hibachi & Sushi. For any out-of-towners, especially since yesterday I ran into a young couple who were from out of town asking if this was for-real-the-actual-mall: yes, this is it; and no, it's not a "normal" mall. You would be better off going to Jackson Plaza 377 W Jackson Street if you are looking to shop or Interstate Drive if you are looking for food. As far as businesses still located at this mall, JCPenney is still open. It is not accessible from inside the mall, only the doors from the parking lot. It looked like Planet Fitness is also still open, and there's a vape shop located on the end nearest JCPenney. If there are any others, I didn't notice they were open. For the most part, this mall is abandoned and in very poor condition. Quite frankly, this mall is one of the creepiest places I have ever been to, gives me shivers down my spine each and every time I've ever gone. It would make one heck of a haunted house, though. It's a shame that this piece of property prime real estate is going to waste in such a decrepit state.
I would rate this as a 0 from out of town and thought would take a look at the mall and JC Penney was the only place open and this is around 10 minutes to 12 cause it liked 10 minutes for the store with the rocks to open and yes the sign did say closed but there was a person on the other side of the counter and someone behind so my husband trys to see if they were open and the lady behind the counter risky screams can't you read were closed well no reason to be so rude lady we were hoping to look around so not happening.Need to get better employees. This happened on Sept 24 2016
I would put zero stars but they don't give me an option. We are from out of state and we were heading back home. Well I had to use the bathroom and my Mom suggested let's go on the mall. I said ok so we went in JC Penny's and then we were wondering why the doors to the mall had been closed, well we didn't think anything about it when we looked through the glass and it looked closed, then we saw people go in so we went in after they left. It is rundowm, abandoned and scary. It is a ghost town in there. When we were in there, there was two stores open the rest completely closed. My Mom and I looked around a little bit then we headed back to the front of the mall and the lights started flickering we didn't think anything of it because the lights had been flickering the whole time but then a child's toy went off, you know like those kids rides they have in supermarkets and malls, the Woody the Woodpecker one laughed then a little girl's laughter filled the room. Keeping in mind there was no one in the building besides my Mom and I . We thought we might have been herring something so we stayed a little longer and it did it again the little girls laughter filled the room aging. My mom and I decided to stay a little longer to here it again, later a truck driver had stop to come in anf eat and we had told him there were no food places or stores open. I had heard the little girl's laughing again and I started freaking out I ran towards the door, but did not completely exit, and the truck driver ask what I was running from we explained and then the little girl laughing, aging caused us all to leave. Now before you go not believeing me here me out. I did not believe in ghost till 15 minutes ago. But now I must say after that experience I believe in ghosts.
i did a job here its not a mall or much of anything any more. I did the planet fitness everyone was super nice inside so if thats what you like to do then you should go.
Nothing to see here, folks. Move along. Well, there is a cool gypsy store with gemstones, tarot cards, incense, and other related items. Besides that its empty. The developers are too selfish to sell the property so it can be used. They'd rather let it rot and waste a valuable resource. They are a waste of life.
If your going to buy stuff there isn't much of a selection. However if your going to shoot a scene out of a horror movie this place is open for most of the day and I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you did.
Scary place. Everything about this place is unsafe. So much so that the attached JC Penny has locked the doors that open into the mall and only uses its outside doors. Don't be caught here at night. Don't be caught here during the day. This place is a ghost town. A running joke amongst people who live in Cookeville. "We could go to the mall.." "NO!"
It's glory days are long gone now only home to jcpenny who will not leave because of cheap rent. O and there is planet fitness at the other end if you are wanting pizza or donuts.
I have great childhood memories of this place, I always walk through when I'm back in town. She's old and weathered but not in any way dangerous ! Appreciate JcPenny holding on all these years !!
A lot of the store in the mall was closed when I was there I look like it would have been a good place to shop
