The CoOperative Nursery School of New Britain is a state-licensed nursery school housed at the First Church of Christ Congregational.
For over 45 years, The CoOperative Nursery School of New Britain has offered stimulating activities designed to help children grow physically, emotionally, intellectually and socially. We provide an atmosphere in which children can develop positive feelings about their first school experience.
Parents play an active role in all aspects of the school administration, maintenance and growth. We strive to keep our school environment fresh and interesting every year by reaching out to our diverse parent base to share their talents, hobbies or interests with our children. Parents participate in the classroom as teachers' helpers on a daily basis. They also select roles and are assigned a job for a given school year or serve as elected officers of the school board. The school operates under the guidance and supervision of the executive board. The executive board includes our teachers and elected parents.
Our educational purpose is to provide each child with opportunities for self-expression, development of their interests and abilities, as well as successful experience in a group setting.
We want children to explore, experiment and learn through play.
We strive to provide our children with the limits they require for physical safety and emotional security along with the freedom that will permit them maximum growth.
What is a CoOperative Nursery School?
A cooperative nursery school is a close-knit community of parents and parent-substitutes who offer time, transportation, materials, skills and snacks throughout the school year. Since parents play such a large role in the school, the tuition is lower. During the course of the school year each family is required to do the following:
Work approximately 1-2 times each month as a teacher's helper. Parents receive a monthly schedule with their assigned "work days"
Hold a job for the school year that requires your time outside of the classroom such as play-dough maker, yearbook committee, special events committee, class photographer, book club coordinator, cleaning and maintenance committee, scrapbook committee, etc.
Drive for field trips (4 & 5 year old classes)
