Will NOT be coming to city of burbank for some time..after enjoying a night with friends and watching God awful THOR at amc 16, my car battery died, AND the entire city seems to have 0 cell service. After finally getting my car started, and driving around to get GPS service so I could finally go home, I get pulled over by officer Perez. Who basically profiled me and my car and figured I was low hanging fruit. I KNOW this profiling because cops in west Hollywood did it to me all the time.. tinted window, some type of exhaust, any questionable modification is good enough for officers to pull you over and have enough reason for further investigation. My registration, insurance, license, and 0 warrants checked out, I wasn't drunk and haven't been in 13 years but I was still given a consolation prize of "Fix it" ticket which is what some officers do when they come up empty handed on every other front and your NOT the suspicious person you and your car looked like.. I received a fix it ticket for NO TAIL LIGHTS!! Which is absolutely crazy, because I wouldn't put 10k into my lexus and forget about taillights.. when I ASKED perez if i could see my taillights and what he was talking about he says "NO" AND Writes me a fix it ticket. Taking time to drive to a police station and then back to court and paying for 7$/gallon gas and 25$ for court fee's is enough for me to avoid LA and especially burbank all together. If you and your car DONT fit the optics of upscale Burbank be prepared to get messed with. The cop who cleared my fix it ticket even laughed at the ticket. As you can see my LED taillights are actually brighter than DOT recommend. good grief. What a hardship to bestow on ppl just trying to spend money on your overpriced shopping plaza..
Officers Perry and Adams were INCREDIBLY kind and helpful. I had to describe one of the most traumatic experiences I ever had and they were super gentle and communicative throughout the whole process. They even made me laugh! It was such a wonderful experience and they made me feel safe. As a black woman, it’s easy to feel guarded being around policemen, especially white, but I wanted to write this so others can remember not all cops are bad. I’m so incredibly grateful!
Had the best and kindest experience filing a police report with the Burbank police department. The phone was answered within 2 rings and an officer was dispatched and arrived at the scene in 5 minutes. He was knowledgeable, caring, helpful and assured me he and the department would do everything they could to find and arrest the suspects. Top notch! Thank you!
BPD. I called in on a noise complaint, it was a motorcycle cop and he promptly took care of it. On another occasion I bumped into an officer walking out of Osaka Teriyaki and he was smiling and acknowledged my presence, good community behavior, I encourage fellow younger officers to follow his footsteps instead of the stone cold face. Thank you. But guys, only because I haven't seen a female officer do it yet please, use your turn signals at intersections??? Sets a bad example when you don't.
UPDATE On Friday, 10/21/22, I received a call from the Burbank PD. We discussed the incident that transpired on 10/20/22. Though I support the police & understand they sometimes must contend with highly stressful situations and like all humans, are imperfect, the fact remains that the officer's attitude was unwarranted. On Saturday, 10/22/22, I visited Valvoline to have the light bulb replaced. I was informed that both rear lights were operative but a third light located above the rear gate, was out. I asked if they knew if it was illegal to drive with that specific light not functioning. I was told it is not illegal and that it is the break lights that must be fully operational. I now believe the flippant officer who stopped me was indeed profiling me. Though I refuse to judge an entire department based on the reprehensible actions of one undisciplined officer, I am including a photograph of the light which I have highlighted that the officer used as a reason for stopping me. ORIGINAL REVIEW Today at about 2 pm, I was stopped by the police while driving through Burbank. A short blond officer walked over to my car and asked "Did you know your middle rear passenger side bulb is out?" I replied I was unaware it was out. He next asked for my driver license and after handing it to him asked "have you ever been arrested?" He also asked "am I going to find any warrants for arrest or volations if I check your license? " I replied that he wouldn't. He next asked where I was driving to and if the car I was driving belonged to someone else?" I told him it is my automobile and paid for. He again asked "if I check your license am I going to find anything?" I told him to check it and verify if there are any problems with my DL. I asked why he was asking me questions about arrests and if the car I was driving belonged to someone else, and where I was traveling to,? He flippantly replied, "because I'm a curious guy." He left and shortly afterwards returned and handed me license. He then asked "Do you have any other problems with my questions or do you want to speak to my supervisor? He is standing right there." Turning to my left was another officer whose shirt referenced the name "Douglas." I told him I would like to speak to his supervisor. The supervisor asked how he could help me. I told him I didn't understand the underlying rationale for the other officer's questions and though I never play the race card nor look at people by the color of their skin, the questions strongly suggested profiling. He explained the questions were "standard" but I told him that in the past when stopped for an issue with my lights, I had never been asked about prior arrests or warrants or if I owned the vehicle I was driving. The officer could have asked to see my registration and insurance card which would have satisfactorily appeased his "curiosities." Douglas was at least civil and intelligent in his replies. Though the arrogant officer is White this wasn't an issue of skin color but rather of character and attitude. I am a huge supporter of the police but this officer did a huge disfavor to the entire Burbank PD and fed into the negative stereotype of police that nowadays and at times, unfairly rampant.
LAPD calls them "United States of Burbank." Time to reallocate police funds. Police are only necessary when there is crime, this is a crimeless city, send these guys to LA and see if they still want to work.
I love this town. The one time I called police is when there was a man at my door who turned out to be a bad man trying to get women to open their door. They came out within 2 minutes to look for the guy. They will always be my heroes. Thank you
Do you even deserve one star? How disappointing to hear you will not uphold the law in which you committed to. Just because he’s one of your own doesn’t mean he’s safe. Bc of your good ole boy mentality you have risked the life of a woman. Do your job BPD! I hope this woman sues your department.
The officers, expect officer Perez don’t deserve their badges. They don’t protect and serve the community, they only protect old co workers. They let old coworkers who beat their wives and break probation go. Would not feel safe if I lived there. They should be ashamed
Burbank PD is not protecting the public. In reference to Liz Olhas post about offer Perez, burbank PD has deliberately failed to protect the innocent. Your behavior is reckless and your lies are on video for the whole world to judge your reckless and abandonment of public safety. You should be ashamed of not protecting his abused wife and child. Shame on YOU!
