The Permit Dept has many dedicated personnel; however, they are overwhelmed with work and since their website doesn’t give you answers to many basic questions, you are forced to call or personally visit. Other times, the ball is simply dropped by the inspectors, when the permit could easily be moved along. The customer usually has to hire a permit expediter for this daunting task. They could have a dedicated email “hotline” to answer questions quickly, but so far sending questions via email to the building department is useless. Recommend to hire an expert to streamline things, as what they are doing isn’t working very well.
Sadly by far the worst customer service from any city I have ever dealt with and I work with a contractor....just WOW. No one picks up the phone to put you on hold - just drops you to the message after picking up. Coral gables should have the money to have extra people service the office if that's the case or maybe its just the staff not sure, but regardless whomever you get on the line is also rude and short everytime...the message says coral gables world class ...nothing world class about city of coral gables LOL
As nice as the folks working in the Building Department are, they can't overcome how terrible the system is. You have to experience trying to get a building permit to believe that the Coral Gables Building Department is really so bad. And nobody seems to care: the mayor, commissioners and city manager go about their business without a care in the world.
Great building department in a beautiful city. Board of Architects is strict but fair. They protect the beauty and integrity of the city. Permit clerks are very professional and helpful. Shout out to Carlos, Ramon, Max, Alisa, and Simone at the BOA and Ernie in the building department. All have been really helpful during the permit process.
Don't know what happened as of late. Service used to be great. Now can't get any one to answer the phone. And you can't visit because they are still not open to the public due to Covid.

Horriable what the did to Mericle miles street they took off all the parking and made parallel parking and add bunch of trees again taking away parking. Poor businesses In the area i am sure they lost clients because of it. I know at of the people that work with me stop going to the strip for lunch. Because if you have to valet every day to eat lunch what’s the point!!! Horrible!!
I go there often,and they take care of me good ,some people better than other ,as usual.
Fast turn around very helpful staff. Fees are incredibly high, makes you think twice about wanting to do work in this city.
Call several times....Never answer the telephone. Non existant Customer service .
