The Cornwall Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) has been proudly serving its community since 1951. Comprised of twenty-three members, some have over thirty years of experience, while others are well skilled in advanced firefighting and rescue techniques.
Our Firefighters are State of Vermont certified, and provide fire suppression, fire prevention, and fire safety education. The Emergency Medical Responders & Technicians are certified through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, as well as State of Vermont licensed as basic life support providers. These members are volunteers, who dedicate their time, skills, sweat, and their lives to protect property, save lives, and make their community a safe place to live and visit.
Combining Firefighting and Basic Life Support services to the town's approximate 1,200 residents, as well as to those who visit and commute through the 29 square miles of Cornwall, CVFD responds to all types of emergencies, such as motor vehicle accidents, technical rescues, structure and woodland fires, hazardous materials incidents, traumatic and medical emergencies to name a few.
Firefighters and EMT’s respond from two fire stations located in town, as well as first respond in their personal vehicles quickly and safely in order to provide care and stabilize a patient, or to begin a fire attack. Public Education is also provided to our elementary school, with hopes of achieving public training forums like first aid and CPR in the future for the residents.
CVFD operates seven pieces of apparatus:
Station 1 (1952 Route 30):
~ Engine 1
~ Engine 3
~ Utility 1
~ Rescue 1
Station 2 (63 North Bingham Street):
~ Engine 2
~ Tanker 1
~ Tanker 2
The mission of the Cornwall Volunteer Fire Department is that of every other fire & rescue service across the nation.
~ It is to prevent the loss of life and to protect property by applying all of our professional knowledge and resources.
~ We will accomplish this mission through fire suppression, rescue, public education, and professional development training.
~ It is our number one priority to provide the best fire and emergency medical services to all citizens and visitors to our great town.
