Cottonwood Elementary PTA in Holladay, Utah
Granite School District
School Built in 1959
Cottonwood Elementary is located in the east-central area of Granite School District. It is located on Holladay Boulevard and has served as a beautiful community landmark in Holladay since its construction in 1959. Most students live within 1.5 miles and are able to walk to school. Cottonwood Elementary is an “Art Works for Kids” school and a recipient of the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program grant which provides enrichment in the area of visual arts. We have a part time visual arts specialist and a part time drama specialist. The philosophy at Cottonwood is to provide an enriched curriculum to help students succeed. We incorporate values of quality and meaningful education, importance of family involvement, and generosity towards others. Our parents are an integral part of our school and are fully involved in PTA and Community Council.
Cottonwood is one of the top level schools for end of year testing and we continue to work diligently to provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of our diverse learners. Academic excellence is a priority at our school. Students, who are identified through Granite District Testing as gifted, will be clustered into the same homeroom class taught by a gifted endorsed teacher. Our ultimate goal is to recognize and celebrate our students while providing an individualized, educational, and nurturing experiences.
In addition to our computer lab, each classroom is equipped with several computers. Students at Cottonwood are proficient in using computers as a tool to complete projects. We have several classes which are incorporating the use of IPOD Touches to support classroom learning and curriculum. All classrooms have projectors, audio enhancement, document cameras, and all classrooms are also equipped with SMART Boards which is an interactive tool to support classroom engagement.
Most of the students promoted from this school attend Olympus Junior High and Olympus High School.
