This is about you, the whole you. It is about what you want to have happen, your identity, your friends, your family, your home, your likes and dislikes, your triggers and where they originate, your talents, hobbies, education, place of birth, the way you make your living, what your community is doing, and what the rest of the world is doing is affecting you as well. I will not ask you about each of these, but as they feel important, you will be expressing how you feel. A lot of how you feel will rise from these. How I listen and respond to your expressed feelings, to draw you out to express your true self further, has weight. I counsel people of all faiths and races. I prefer to counsel followers of Christ due to the fact that we speak the same language and my therapies are not for a purpose of changing their basic beliefs; but for the purpose of healing them. It is not I who heals but God. And so, clients who recognize their Creator are in a position to hear Him and to experience the results of His Word for them. God has given us the tools of clinical counseling as well as the gifts of faith, trust, intelligence, and obedience. I respect the theories and uses of psychotherapy, cognitive therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, short-term solution-based counseling, systems therapy, rapid eye movement (REM), expressive art including music, and hypnotherapy as it was practiced by Erickson. In distance counseling, we use conference calls for one for couples. Email counseling has purposes especially for those who've had difficulty speaking in the past. In terms of fees for phone counseling, I keep mine modest due to the fact that I think everyone ought to be able to have it. Phone charges are incidentally smaller due to the fact that after the customer makes the date and time for their appointment and provides their information, I call them to follow through at appointment time, rather than the customer having to call me again. Effective counseling seeks what we call a good fit, a good fit of customer being comfortable with their counsellor, a good fit of timing. In that case, customers calling from work, for example have extra benefits from phone counselling like no traffic jam or looking for parking places, no parking fees. If they are sick in bed and want therapy they have it. Convenience is important to us in this day and age. We try hard to create the environments that keep counseling or therapy convenient for our customers. I do some radio: we have a lot of businesses in the Gorge who keep their work families too busy for FB! Last but not least: Among couples counseled the parting words heard most often, with joy, "We didn't know we could hope again."
I pray that folks who come to me, come in trust that together with God we are moving forward, so that the big pitfall of acting out of false information + selfishness is wiped out, and so that harmony and happiness are the home's strength.
