Cowell Stadium

Description

Wildcat Stadium is a 11,015-seat open-air multi-purpose stadium in Durham, New Hampshire on the campus of the University of New Hampshire. It is home to the New Hampshire Wildcats football and track and field varsity teams. The stadium, which runs west-northwest, consists of a FieldTurf playing surface surrounded by a 400-metre track. On either side of the track are aluminum stands . The stadium lies just southwest of the Field House, which houses Lundholm Gym as well as Swazey Pool and the Jerry Azumah Performance Center. The stadium opened on October 10, 1936 with a game against rival Maine. The stadium is a part of the main athletics area of campus, south of Main Street and west of the railroad tracks. It replaced Memorial Field, which has since been remodeled for use by women's lacrosse and field hockey, and lies across Main St. beside the Whittemore Center. The stadium was originally named Alumni Field, but was renamed in 1952 in honor of former football coach and athletic director William H. "Butch" Cowell. The field itself was renamed Mooradian Field in 1994 to honor Andy Mooradian, a longtime UNH professor and athletic director. The track and field facility surrounding the field is named after Reggie F. Atkins, UNH class of 1928, a star student athlete who in later life donated the funds to start building the facility.

As an old alumnus of UNH I am amazed at how this stadium has evolved culturally, technologically and architecturally since the early 1980's, yet it still retains that small New England campus feel that allows me to get all nostalgic when I visit. Love my Wildcats football, even when we don't win.
Great stadium. Facility maintained impeccably. Great family atmosphere. . Victory Club is tops. Great food. Beer is pricey. Adequate parking. Traffic directed well by staff and local police.
The new "home" addition and scoreboard are top notch. So much so that they need to update the visitors side now. Would be nice to have field-level bathrooms though. Not sure how that was missed.
Nice stadium it had a good size field. The game was exciting.
Great place to come watch a game with friends or family!
Nice big and clean, good for playing football here like I did
Here for Wild Cat football! Always a fun time
Not a very large stadium but big enough to where you can see the game from any seat. The entire sports complex is impressive. This is a fun stadium to watch a track meet or Saturday afternoon football game.
Great place to watch a game.
Wildcat Stadium has great seating and an amazingly largescreen TV-quality scoreboard where we watched close-ups & replays of the CHaD All-Star football game. They also have good eats, including popcorn & ice cream sundaes. Several parking areas accommodate lots of normal in a field and handicap in an asphalt lot parking. A large walking or wheeling ramp goes up to the seating areas. Can't wait to go again!
