Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that can also promote healing. The actual session is similar to traditional massage and can be found to be both very relaxing and soothing or to increase the person's own energy levels.
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a noninvasive, holistic healing system that works with the body's chakras. The healing energy of Reiki is beneficial in promoting balance in body, mind and soul. Reiki provides many of the same benefits as traditional massage therapy, such as reducing stress, stimulating the immune system, increasing energy, and assisting in relieving the pain and symptoms of some health conditions. It regained popularity in the Chinese and Japanese cultures during the 1920s and is offered as part of regular patient care in over 800 hospitals across the U.S. (including being given in operating rooms and intensive care units). Reiki is used alone and in conjunction with other healing methods for many ailments. Reiki is recognized and researched by the Nations Institutes of Health, Nation Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM).
Reiki is a simple procedure, consisting of calm and concentrated touching, during which the practitioner's hands are held flat over key positions on the receiver’s body, with the fingertips touching. During the session, the receiver lies clothed on his or her back on the massage table. The practitioner places their hands over positions on the body where the organs and endocrine glands reside, and the areas that correspond to the chakra centers. The hand positions begin at the crown of the head and move towards the feet. The practitioner's hands are held in each position for usually five minutes, to allow the transfer of energy and the healing process to take place. In each position, the hands are kept stationary, unlike typical massage where the hands move. However, the end result of a Reiki session is similar to one of traditional massage in which the receiver feels relaxed, less stressed and the body feels less tense. Reiki generally has no side effects, as it is a very low impact and gentle procedure. Some receivers report tingling or sensations of heat or cold during treatment.
Sessions are $40 and generally last for an hour, to an hour and a half. Credit/ debit cards are not accepted, at this time. Reiki shares and Reiki trades are also encouraged for individuals that are fellow Reiki practitioners.
Currently, sessions can be scheduled Monday-Sunday, by appointment only. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
