Community Service-Learning: Integrates community service and academic instruction. Students enrolled in service-learning courses engage in at least 20 hours of responsible and challenging community service that relates directly to the course content and meets a significant community-identified need.
Community Engagement: Leverages CSULB and community resources to address the needs and priorities of both the community (local, regional, & global) and the university.
* Community Scholars Program provides leadership development and organizational capacity building to emerging leaders of grassroots/community-based organizations, particularly within culturally diverse communities.
* Villages at Cabrillo HSIAC project supports a coordinated, collaborative effort to break the cycle of homelessness in Long Beach through shared resources for homeless and recently homeless families and military veterans at the Villages at Cabrillo.
* Long Beach Building Healthy Communities is a ten-year multi-stakeholder collaborative designed to improve health systems and the physical, social, economic and service structures that support healthy living and healthy behaviors in Central Long Beach. One of 14 communities targeted by The California Foundation for this initiative.
* Long Beach Building Healthy Communities AmeriCorps Initiative complements LB BHC's systemic efforts through multi-site youth mentoring.
