The Carleton Interfaith Chaplaincy Centre offers interfaith dialogue and a variety of spiritual and faith-based experiences.
The Carleton Interfaith Chaplaincy Centre (CICC) is an office and meeting room on campus, provided by the university through the President's Office and the Office of Student Services, and supported by off-campus faith groups. It is governed by the Carleton Interfaith Chaplaincy Council.
The CICC seeks to provide safe space for personal spirituality and group experiences that will foster an inclusive and supportive community by offering a variety of spiritual and faith-based practices and by encouraging religious literacy, interfaith dialogue, cooperation and action as part of the student experience at Carleton.
The Interfaith Chaplaincy Centre is open to all viewpoints; regardless of belief, tradition, or spiritual outlook, including those that are questioning or seeking. The Volunteer Interfaith Chaplains are grounded in their own respective religious traditions, but are well-informed, open, and prepared to help students connect with any faith group and pursue their own spiritual journeys.
Education & Awareness
Religious literacy is a key component to living in a pluralist society, and the CICC provides opportunities to learn – to learn about oneself, others, and various religious, spiritual and secular traditions and viewpoints.
Community & Leadership
The CICC is a place for community and relationships. It is a place for students to develop their own understandings of their place within a community. There are opportunities for collaborative discussion and learning about living and engaging in a Canadian, democratic, secular and pluralist society. The CICC provides opportunities to engage in interreligious and intercultural dialogue and cooperation, and in critical thinking about religion and spirituality in the public sphere, and how we can be global citizens and leaders in creating a better world for all.
Chaplains
The CICC collaborates with many different communities to ensure the availability of individual chaplains from a variety of religious and spiritual communities. Chaplains are here to provide spiritual and religious support and guidance and crisis support to students, staff and faculty regardless of their beliefs or outlook. Many chaplains also engage in building communal opportunities for gathering, growth and reflection.
Resources
The CICC is a resource for students, staff and faculty with regard to spiritual and religious matters on campus, including religious accommodation and the development and provision of other religious and spiritual resources. The CICC also provides space on campus for students to connect with self or others, pray, reflect or meditate.
