This is actually my second visit to the park. I really like this place because it's very serene and just so beautiful in nature and the best part is the viaduct bridge between the lake and waterfall. I was alone but this is a place best shared with the company of others. The Harvest restaurant is really a great place to dine especially with the view of the lake. Great place for camping as well. People also swim here as well. There's a visitor center when you drive in to provide information.
A lovely campsite. Everything is easy to find and depending on the campsite it's easy to walk to most of the main attractions and the camp store. The aviary is also a plus. There are plenty of great areas for pictures and firewood is very reasonably priced if you accidentally didn't bring enough. There were also plenty of fallen trees and branches to keep a fire going. The bathrooms were about what you'd expect from a state park, but not nearly as bad as a lot of the ones I've been to. It's not so much dirty as just old. It would be nice if more funds were allocated to update the bathrooms at state parks. My only complaint is that the restaurant buffet is really not phenomenal. For roughly the same price as golden corral the options are much more limited and not quite as good. The staff on the other hand is cheerful and helpful and no fault could be found in them.
We camped here for one night in late November for one night. We came in without reservations and having arrived early, were able to register at the office before proceeding to our site. The first site that we were given was a somewhat difficult site to get into and the office was gracious enough to change our site to one that was an easy back in. It offered water and electric, but no sewer. What looked like sewer connection was the water shut off valve. There were some sites, but not many that offered sewer. Our site, 40, had some privacy on the driver’s side. The sites were generally close together, but at this time of year with with few campers, this was not an issue. There were site options available that had more privacy given where they were situated, but for us it did not matter. We had a nice fire here courtesy of another campers leftover wood. The site had a fire pit with grill, a BBQ grill, lantern pole and picnic table. We checked out the bathrooms, which were the nicest of any of the TN state parks we visited. They appeared to be more recently remodeled. The cell service was weak, but we were able to use at times. We have been to this park in the past to golf and to visit Homestead buildings. I would definitely return when it is better golfing weather. And to check out the restaurant.
This was out second camping trip there this year. It is a very beautiful area. Love to hike around the lake. The only negative there was at the campground is that the water at our site wouldn't shut all the way off. It had a steady stream coming out the entire time. I am sure they are short staffed just like everyone else. Everything else was a big positive. a lot of state campgrounds you never see the camp hosts. Here, they were out and about most of the day. Thank you for that. Hopefully will be back a couple times next year. Restrooms: Restrooms were very clean. They took great care of them
Many cabins to choose from from rustic to lush. The two times we’ve stayed there we have found them very clean. The older ones, we like, we’re built by the CCC back around the depression to give people work and learn skills from carpentry. Electrical, stone masonry, trail and road construction as well as constructing a massive dam. The workmanship is worth seeing.
This is a lovely state park. Directly across from the office we took what they call an ADA trail. It was paved the entire .5 mile to the boat landing and was a very nice outing for my husband in a manual wheelchair. I do the pushing and the trail has a pretty steep grade down to the lake so pushing him back up was quite a workout. Restrooms: We used the facilities in the office. The handicap stall in the women's bathroom was adequate for a wheelchair and a left hand grab bar.
We enjoyed fishing off the dam side of the bridge, the lake side, the mini museum in the old bathhouse, the excellent restrooms, the David Crockett billboards, and the playgrounds. The bathrooms at the playground are in terrible shape. My children really enjoyed the park ranger shop and were highly entertained by the associate at the counter and white hot chocolate. Playground: The playgrounds were great, a little worn out everything a kid needed to expel some energy. The green one is a little harder for the littles but it had a 5-10 rating. The blue one didn't have a rating sign but seemed to be great for all of them and the swings were nearby. All kids 3-13 loved it. The bathrooms here were in really rough shape. Restrooms: The restrooms at the playground were awful. The sinks were without water and there was foul language and writing over all the stall walls. The old bathhouse restrooms across the pavilion from the mini museum were excellent. Heated, well kept, and easily accessible. Dog-friendliness: We saw several individuals taking their dogs around, plenty of space to walk and run. Picnic area: The pavilion at the old bathhouse looked like a great place to congregate. Pavilions near the playgrounds looks very open and usable as well. It was a cold wet day, and they appeared mostly dry.
The trails here are great! The cabins need work though. Mice in the walls that ate our food at night and chewed through multiple things. Left droppings everywhere each night there, so had to wash all the dishes twice every day. Something needs to be done to manage the mice! Asked the park about this and all they did was give us mousetraps. Also the toilet was at a slant and beds not comfortable. Not the best cabin I’ve stayed at. Won’t be in a rush to get back.
Our 1st trip was 2022 camping and loved this state park. January 2023, we stayed at one of the restored CCC cabins. Very quaint and nice. The only complaint with the cabin #2 is the fireplace. No matter how you started the fire it would smoke up the cabin unless you used basically 1 log in the very back of the fireplace. Love the trails and everything else about Cumberland Mountain State Park!
It was a beautiful and historic place to visit. The restaurant was great and the playground was wonderful, the kids really enjoyed themselves. The park is maintained very well, it's clean and there are restrooms in several convenient locations. Playground: The playground is a good playground, the have two relatively close to one another, one being for smaller children. They were clean and maintained. There is also restrooms near by. Restrooms: There restrooms were clean and in good working condition. That's always a plus. Picnic area: They have covered picnic shelters, as well as picnic tables right near the playground. Ideal for birthday parties or a family get together.
