Dali17 Museum

About

The largest private collection of Salvador Dali artwork in the United States!

Description

Dali17 is the United State's first and only private, permanent Salvador Dali collection on the West Coast. We will re-introduce the local history surrounding the artist and display photographs from his "Surrealistic Night at the Hotel Del Monte."

Dali17 is Monterey's newest exhibition to the local art community. Located at the Museum of Monterey, the remarkable and unprecedented art showcases the twentieth century’s premier and most celebrated surrealist artist; Salvador Dali. The collection features original etchings, mixed media, lithographs and rare sculptures. This particular collection has only been exhibited in Spain and Belgium making it a rare and exciting addition to the Monterey Bay. The unique assortment of works are now on display in what was the Monterey Maritime Museum building located next to Fisherman’s Wharf.

The works have been acquired by Mr. Dmitry Piterman of Pebble Beach; international entrepreneur, art collector, soccer executive and professional athlete.

Awesome experience! The front desk was super kind and friendly. I was beyond stoked to find this little gem in Monterey! I'm huge fan of the artist's work and was more than impressed on the size of the museum as well as what pieces it hard to offer in the galleria.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$16–20
This is my first time in Monterey, CA. and as soon as I saw that this exhibit existed, I knew that I had to go. We spent 2+ hours here. In complete amazement, wanderlust & more. I was blown away at how well curated this whole exhibit is. Everything was beautifully matted/framed, descriptive wall labels, and felt like a private viewing. I would highly recommend any art fans, especially those of Dali to come out & see this exhibit before it’s gone! Also, to support any of the exhibits at this awesome location. 10/10
Interesting and well organized! For an art lover and a Dali fan, definitely a must! Yes, there are some original works as well!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$16–20
Stopped by Monterey for a couple of nights and found this gem of an art exhibition. If you are a Dali fan you will love this and will need to spend 2 or 3 hours. Otherwise a casual hour will suffice. Huge amount of material carefully hung in their groups. Very good value.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$16–20
Amazing works of art. Set up in a way where you actually feel a sense of the artist perspective and mindset. Great seating areas for reflection of the art and references that explain the exhibit. I highly recommend that you go before it's gone and moved on.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$16–20
An astonishingly large collection of Dali's work, including complete sets of several series and lots of sculpture. Thoughtful, informative and attractive presentation filling two floors that shows Dali's astonishingly diverse creations, from simple drawings to elaborate sculpture and more. Don't rush, there's a lot here.
Beautiful museum for a reasonable price. The paintings and creations by Dali were absolutely stunningVisited onPublic holidayWait time1 hr+Reservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$16–20

If you love Dali, you'll probably find this interesting and worth an hour or two. If you only like his 'Greatest Hits' you'll probably struggle to find this particular collection engaging. Dali was prolific and he also cranked out a lot of work that was... harder to appreciate than the iconic stuff.
This was a surprising find. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this expo while in town. Although the collection effectively consists of Dali's b-sides, they are still undoubtedly worth seeing. You can see inspirations for his other enigmatic works, and some works that I frankly had no idea he created. There's a lot to see. Anyone who likes surrealism should see this collection, for sure. There's also a local artist installment on the second floor.
