Dalton is a town in Coos County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 979 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Berlin, NH - VT Micropolitan Statistical Area.HistoryDalton was incorporated in 1764 under the name Chiswick, named for the Duke of Devonshire's castle. The name was changed to Apthorp in 1770, after the Apthorp family. The name Dalton was chosen in 1784, in honor of Tristram Dalton.GeographyAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of, of which is land and is water, comprising 2.00% of the town.
