Dance on the Water offers you exciting travel adventures with a friendly group of people who share your love of folk dancing!
Dance on the Water organizes travel adventures to destinations around the world for folk dancers and those who love them. Trips usually include a land portion exploring local attractions followed by several days of cruising on rivers or seas traveling to different ports. A dance leader teaches new dances and facilitates request dance sessions as often as possible. We enjoy dancing on the deck while cruising along or after dinner under the stars. We also arrange events with local dance groups who perform and share their dances with us, creating an international community dedicated to the joyfulness of dance and cultural exchange!
David and Marija Hillis are excited to be the new owners and operators of Dance on the Water river cruises. Marija is a lifelong dancer. She retired in 2013 as a Special Education teacher in public school and is now a part time Learning Specialist. She has been teaching at Berkeley Folk Dancers for the past five years following several years as a performer in Westwind International Folk Ensemble and Jubilee American Dance Theatre. David works as a family law and estate planning attorney. He didn’t dance until he met Marija in 1999, when they both turned 50. Since then, he’s progressed from differentiating right from left foot, to Hambo King, to co-teacher of folk dance with Marija. They live in Berkeley and have six adult children between them.
