Danny’s Fine Foods and Danny’s II roots run deep. The independent grocery business was established over 65 years ago by Danny Vuich Sr.’s father Mike Vuich Sr. It was then taken over by Danny Vuich Sr. and was known as Food Basket. Through his hard work and fortitude, relocation and expansion followed: Danny’s Fine Foods, located at 1002 West Elm Ave. and Danny’s II, located at 199 Cole Road. The Vuich stores have always been synonymous with high quality products and friendly, effective service. Carrying on that tradition after Danny’s death in 1998, is his wife Lucille Vuich and her daughter and son, Karen Vuich Bellino and Danny Vuich Jr. Karen Vuich Bellino shares “We were raised in the family grocery business. It gets your blood and becomes contagious among family and employees. The history of every independent supermarket business is also a family chronicle.”
“I always thought dad was an inspiration” she said. “He wasn’t a doctor, dentist or lawyer, though he admired his friends who were. He was a hands-on guy who worked many hours facing shelves, cutting meat, unloading trucks and getting dirty. Danny Vuich Sr. loved every minute of it. You could see it in his eyes and especially in his smile.”
