The Davenport Fire Department was formed in 1926 and operated as an all-volunteer department until 2004. In 2009, the department restructured in order to provide the best possible service to its citizens. Today the department has six full-time firefighters, 3 part time firefighters and 12 reserve firefighters. Professionally trained personnel provide fire protection, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response and mitigation, fire prevention and inspection, community education, and disaster planning service. Polk County is the eighth most populated county in the state with 583,403 residents. Davenport Fire Department provides fire suppression and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) services to the residents of Davenport and the surrounding area. This Station also currently houses a Polk County Fire Rescue Engine 242 to provide Automatic and Mutual Aid agreements.
