David Geffen Hall

About

Home of the New York Philharmonic

Description

In 1962, Philharmonic Hall—renamed Avery Fisher Hall in 1973 and later renamed David Geffen Hall in 2015—became one of the first buildings to be completed on the Lincoln Center site and home to one of its first resident organizations, the world-renowned New York Philharmonic, the oldest symphony orchestra in the U.S. Today, David Geffen Hall hosts notable performances by acclaimed orchestras and artists from around the globe, as well as galas, film premieres, graduations, and conferences.Located on the north side of Josie Robertson Plaza facing Lincoln Center’s iconic Revson Fountain, David Geffen Hall’s spacious lobby and promenade feature such eminent artwork as Rodin’s bust of Gustav Mahler and Dimitri Hadzi’s sculpture The Hunt, in addition to wraparound views of the Lincoln Center campus.

This is the new and very posh home of the New York Philharmonic. The new venue is simply fantastic, they did an awesome job with the renovation and I can attest that the acoustics are now excellent. My wife and I found the parking and the concert tickets very reasonable and convenient. The restaurants in the area are within walking distance and there are bars right on the premises. An excellent way to spend an evening if you love music.
I had the privilege of being one the singers in Chorus for Mostly Mozart Concert recently. I really like the way the hall is set up to accommodate everyone. Beautiful layout. Also there are screens in the lobby where spectators can watch as well. I would highly recommend attending a concert here.
Beautiful hall and stage! Saw Romeo and Juliet by the American Ballet Company. It was my first time here and the first time seeing ballet. It was such a beautiful performance! Will surely be back.
This was my first time visiting since the renovation. The place looks and sounds wonderful. I don't know if it's permanent, but I especially enjoyed the exhibition featuring some of the people who lived in the area before Lincoln Center was built.
As many of you frequent concert-goers know, the new David Geffen Hall has been finished. Everything about every part of the environment is exciting, from the concourse outside to the hall itself. The new lobby is absolutely gorgeous and inviting, the staff is always helpful, and the walk up to the hall is easy. The hall, itself, has amazing acoustics and has a bunch of small tokens/Easter Eggs that you can catch about the designs and the whole procession of the concert. i.e; the twinkling spherical lights that have their own little show before the real show And of course, the NY Phil never fails to deliver an exhilarating and unforgettable performance every day.
We just stopped to charge our phones in hall at 7 pm. And beautiful concert started. We listened and viewed it in hall for free. Very comfortable for citizens and for guests of NY.
Lincoln Center itself is an amazing place, and the Geffen Hall complex does not fail to impress. Entry to the performance space opens one half hour before the performance but there is a large lobby with seating areas, and drink/snack stands. The drinks are packaged so that you can bring them in with you. Not sure on the snacks. The windows surrounding the hall on each level offer beautiful views of rest of Lincoln Center as well as the Geffen levels below you. Above orchestra, there are three tiers of seating. Beware, tier two is along the side of the auditorium and the first row may present a height issue to some! Escalators and elevators as well as stairs serve the upper levels. All staff were helpful and efficient. Program literature advises arrival half hour before performance but ten minutes before our event, at least half of the orchestra seats were empty. It is a tribute to staff that the "we have time " folks were seated for an on time start of the concert. Unlike some Broadway venues, seats were comfortable and comfortably spaced. I thank the designers for that detail! Well I have not commented on the acoustics of the hall- I am no expert nor do I have a spoiled ear, but again- the designers hit the mark. Sound was great from the tinkle of a single bell to the lasts of the trumpets! At the end of the performance, staff were on hand to direct patrons to the best exits!
We had third tier tickets and loved it. You can see everything and the sound was still tremendous. Single row in front and behind seating with a lot of leg room. We all agreed to buy the same tickets next time.
Saw Twoset Violins there and the show was excellent! The concert hall itself is open and airy has amazing acoustics, and the show at least the one I saw was very well mixed and produced. There is an auditorium that is likewise large and elegant. Liquor is served, and there is an outdoor patio where you can wait. Restrooms are clean, quite nicely maintained, and numerous.
How many times have I been to this place: Multiple times ‍ Summary: Incredible experience at David Geffen Hall Concert Experience: I recently attended Yunchan Lim's debut performance of Rach 3 at David Geffen Hall, and it was truly incredible. The hall is spacious, allowing for a comfortable and enjoyable concert experience. The sound system is top-notch, delivering an amazing audio quality that enhanced the performance. Recording Issue: It's worth mentioning that I noticed a few people recording the performance, and I was surprised that it didn't catch the attention of the staff. While it didn't affect my overall experience, it would have been better if such activities were discouraged during the performance. ‍ Would I revisit this place? Absolutely! I would definitely visit David Geffen Hall again. The combination of the spacious hall, amazing sound system, and the opportunity to witness incredible performances like Yunchan Lim's makes it a must-visit venue for me.
