In 2009, Butler won its first 4AA State Championship title at Carter-Finley Stadium defeating Fayetteville based Jack Britt High School 48–17. In 2010, behind a dominant offensive line and potent defense, Butler repeated as North Carolina State 4AA Champions by defeating Wake Forest-Rolesville High School 44–0 and finished the season with a 31-game winning streak. In 2012, Butler defeated Fayetteville based Jack Britt High School 56-28 at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, winning the NC 4AA state title for the 3rd time in 4 seasons. In what is widely considered to be one of the most dominant seasons in North Carolina state history, undefeated Butler finished the 2012 season ranked # 1 in North Carolina and # 3 in the final USA Today 2012 National Super 25 Football Poll. In what is widely considered to be the best recruiting class in North Carolina high school sports history, the Bulldogs sent 13 players to Division 1 schools. The group, littered with recruits in the top 50 nationally, included, QB Christian Lemay, LB Kris Frost, RB Jahwan Edwards, RB Deion Walker, OL Kendall Lamm, OL Sean Knight, OL D.J Humphries and WR Zach Ferguson.
