This is the second time I have eaten at this restaurant - my first experience was not good so I thought I would give them a second chance. I am sorry to say my second visit was just as disappointing as my first visit. I ordered a Ham and Brie sandwich on a baguette to go and asked for sour dough bread instead of a baguette. The ham was a boiled deli ham not what I was expecting and the bread was extremely dry and tasted stale. I called the restaurant to give my feedback and asked about the bread. The person I spoke with confirmed the bread was baked 2 days ago which explains why it was dry and tasted stale. For a $10 sandwich, I expected better. My first experience was also related to the bread - I had a baguette and it too tasted stale. I will not be back.
This is not as nice as their original location in Wilmington. No amazing bakery smells when you walk in and it smelled of burnt bread. The French cruller I had was dry and stale. I'll stick to the other location which has the amazing croissants stacked high when I go.
Note: this is a second location for De La Coeur in north Wilmington, replacing the previous location in Talleyville. The original location on Lovering Avenue remains open. The new location continues the great food and coffee of the Lovering Avenue café and adds a lunch menu too. We had lunch there in their first week open - I had the tomato and roasted red pepper soup and the curried chicken salad sandwich. Both were excellent - the sandwich especially. I’m a bit on an expert on curried chicken salad as the concept - Coronation Chicken - was invented in the UK. The new location is airy, a little more spacious than Lovering Avenue and parking is definitely more convenient.
Price was high for 2 slices of French toast. Didn't realize it came with raisins so had to take them out, and food2 orders of French toast was undercooked. We had to send back half of each order to be cooked fully. Everything took a long time, wouldn't recommend if you are in a hurry. Cookie was okay but very hard.
De La Couer has the perfect vibe needed for our community as a welcoming coffee house. Just like its sister restaurant in Wilmington, these simple menu is both elegant and delicious. Today was our first visit but we will return frequently.
Great cafe for lunch, offering a variety of sandwiches, salads a featured soup. Pastries and bread are made in house. Drip coffee, tea and espresso based products are available as well. The atmosphere is spacious, cozy and eclectic.
Best almond latte ever. Nice salad though I wish it came with a hunk of bread. Excellent pastries and atmosphere.
Fresh baked goods made on site served along with artisan sandwiches, healthy salads and hearty soups. All delicious!
Excellent food and service. Perfect for picking up a loaf of bread, a homemade pastry, or sitting down for a sandwich, salad, or quiche.
Excellent variety of baked goods...even toward the end of the day...and the service was excellent. Highly recommend the savory hand pies!
