Barry L. Gommer Jr. has spent his life bridging the eastern and western healing modalities.
For over twenty five years Barry has been studying Chinese martial arts and Qi Gong with the last 18 years under Sifu Pedro Yee of Yee’s Hung Ga International kung fu association www.yeeshungga.com. Barry is a long time disciple of Sifu Yee where he currently holds a 3rd degree black belt.
During his early training with Sifu Yee Barry also started to learn Tuina (Chinese medical massage) and Dit Da. In the martial arts world Dit Da is known as trauma or hit medicine and is great for bruises, sprains, swelling to more serious injuries. Studying under his Sifu his desire to learn Acupuncture and Chinese medicine continued to grow so he moved to North Jersey to be able to study with his Sifu regularly and to be able to start acupuncture school in New York City.
In 2000, Barry was accepted into Pacific College of Oriental Medicine which is the largest Oriental Medicine College in the U.S. While attending Pacific College in San Diego he not only took his Acupuncture classes, but took extensive training in Tunia, Swedish and deep tissue massage with over a 1,000 hours or training.
Later, Barry decided to attend Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Over the next two years Barry completed is Master Degrees in Traditional Chinese medicine. Barry practiced in FL for four years after graduating and before meeting his wife after which they decided to move back to Delaware.
Barry is a licensed Acupuncturist in the State of Delaware and a Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner specializing in Chinese Medical Therapies. Barry is board certified in Acupuncture by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (www.nccaom.org) He also holds several certifications in Oriental Medical Massage, including Tuina.
Good health and longevity starts with a strong foundation. Dedicating his life to the study of the all the Asian healing arts, Barry is always learning and studying whatever he can to enhance the art and practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Barry's extensive background in martial arts, Dit Da, Chinese medicine, exercise, nutrition, massage and Tuina gives him a unique way of approaching the whole mind and body for better health and wellness into his practice to help each and every person he treats improve their overall mind and body health, thus enhancing their quality of life.
Over the years Barry has treated thousands of patients with Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese medicine including a new born that was a month old to professional athletes and even a German Shepard.
Barry has written numerous articles on the complex and natural method of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He lectures frequently on the subject of Traditional Chinese medicine.
At his clinic in Newark Delaware not only does he practice Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, along with nutrition, but he also teaches small groups and private lessons in Qigong, meditation and Kung Fu. His goal is to bring balance and harmony to the mind and body enabling the body's natural ability to function and regulate itself better.
