Delaware River Railroad Excursions

About

The Delaware River Railroad Excursions was started in the spring of 2004 as a partnership between the Phillipsburg Urban Enterprise Zone, The Black River and Western Railroad and The New York Susquehanna & Western Technical & Historical Society Inc.

Description

We offer many things to do throughout the year. Our trains include: Easter Bunny trains, Regular Season trains, Mine trains, Winery trains, A Day Out With Thomas, Corn Maze trains, The Great Pumpkin trains, and the Polar Express. For special event train times and for ticket prices please go to 877trainride.com

Regular season trips run every Saturday and Sunday from the beginning of May until the end of October. Trains run at 11:00, 12:30, 2:00, and 3:30.

In addition to the regular rides, we offer a Mine Train, where the train takes you to the Ol' Susquehanna Mine. You will get off the train here (and wait approx. 1 hr. 15 mins. until the next train) and pan for gemstones.

We also offer a Winery Train for adults. You will take the train to the end of our line and take a short bus ride up to the winery, Villa Milagro. There you have the opportunity to taste the wines and purchase them at the winery. Villa Milagro is the only organic vineyard on the east coast. This train only runs at 11:00. Winery trains DO NOT run during the July 4th weekend and the following weekend due to the A Day Out With Thomas Event (Information below).

Starting in August, you will have the option to ride the train to the Ol' Susquehanna Mine and participate in a corn maze. The maze is carved in the image of a steam engine. There is a short maze and a long maze.

During October, every child on our train will be able to get off at the historic Carpentersville Lime Kilns and pick a pumpkin. Picking the pumpkins is solely for children, no adults will be allowed to take a pumpkin.

SPECIAL TRAINS:

Starting the weekend before Easter and the Saturday before Easter Sunday, we run our Easter Bunny trains. Children on the train will get a visit from the Easter Bunny and be allowed to pick 3 eggs from our Easter Egg patch (weather permitting) in front of the Carpentersville Lime Kilns. If the patch must be closed due to weather, 3 eggs will be handed out to each child on the train.

During the July 4th weekend and the following weekend, we will be hosting A Day Out With Thomas. Two trains are available that day, our mine train and regular train ride (no winery train these two weekends), and a 25 minute ride behind a real, working Thomas the Tank Engine. There is also much to do back at our station area in Phillipsburg.

During the last weekend in November and for 3 weekends in December, we run our Polar Express trains. During the trip, everyone in their pajamas will receive hot chocolate and cookies. The story of the Polar Express will be playing throughout the train.
