They have restored this grand railroad station into a hotel that has a central lobby surrounded by eateries. It's a very elegant and comfortable place to wait for your light rail or Amtrak train. I love arriving here on the A line from the Denver airport.
We were looking forward to visiting this famous historic landmark on our recent trip. Union Station is located in the heart of the Mile High City for more than a century. The station’s architecture is historically beautiful indoors and outdoors! Just one word…WOW!!! We didn’t have to catch a train, we actually came here to see what we had heard about this place and for breakfast! Had no idea a train station could be this nice! There are plenty of antique solid wood sitting benches. Loved the workmanship here including the moldings. This is such a nice gathering place. The retail shops and eateries are very convenient and the bathrooms are relatively clean. If you haven’t seen this place yet then you should definitely check it out. Highly recommend! Safety: There is security guards walking indoors and outdoors 24/7, pretty safe place. Walkability: Walking distance from stores and restaurants. Food & drinks: There are several of food and drink stations in the building. We ate at Snooze, an A.M. Eatery really good food!
the nicest station denver’s got. lines going all over the place even out of state. very nice building to sleep and wait for a train. lots of stores and restaurants to keep you busy and spending money. bathrooms are large and nice. you can even buy tickets here. beautiful and old building. Nearby activities: breweries and food! Safety: security walking around inside and outside 24/7 Walkability: there are so many stores and restaurants within walking distance. there is also a small water feature for children to play in during summer Food & drinks: there are plenty of food and drink vendors inside the building. including a sit down restaurant
Train delayed until 3am while you travel with a small child? God help you, because the "security" at Denver's Union Station sure won't rest until they've made you feel both uncomfortable and criminal. Sitting on a couch with same small child? Be ready to show them your travel documents. Have the audacity to later sit cross-legged on the same couch, hours after producing the proper docs? Not under their watch. I was told I had to keep both feet on the floor or else I'd be in violation of their "Code of Conduct." I asked to see it in writing, so here it is for y'all, too, since it's not publicly posted. Oh, and the man who informed of this wore a gun. Hey, it's not like I want to be here, dude. Six hours' delay wait time is nobody's first plan. In short: Denver has got to be the least welcoming city I've ever visited, and the people policing Union Station exemplify that vibe. Can't wait to never spend my money or time here again.
Denver Union Station is in a good location. The ability to connect and transfer from rail to bus and Amtrak is good for business. The retail shops and eateries are convenient. Restrooms are close and clean under the circumstances. This location has serious issues when dealing with the homeless population. There are efforts to make it a better place for all.
Probably the only thing I like about Denver. Seriously, don't get me started on why I don't like Denver. However, Denver Union Station was love at first sight. My first time arriving into Denver was via Amtrak. What an experience. The aesthetic of it all is gorgeous. I'm so pleased that it's kept very well maintained. There are bus services downstairs and local trolley trains that can go as far as the airport. There's a variety of eateries that are all going to be on the pricey side, but there's a lot of options depending on what you're looking for. This is a magnificent place to just sit and people watch. It can get busy. Like any station, be mindful of your surroundings. However, I felt safe for the most part. There's security that walks around. I love that a lot of the history has melded into the modern industrial design.
I love Union Station. If you go to other major metro/transit stations outside of the NE USA, they are dilapidated, grungy, and dangerous. I moved from Houston and their central metro hub was a joke. Denver's however is very well put together. The bus station is very nice, the transit platform is great, and the dining areas around are super cool. Most of the time I feel safe. Yes, there are some homeless down in the bus area and around Union station but they don't harm anyone 99% of the time. In addition, there's usually plenty of security so that helps. Plus I enjoy that it's a center spot for most of the city.
Great station With comfortable seats indoors Restrooms, hotels and food inside. Track 1 goes directly to DIA ea 15 min.. a 45 min ride. Walkability: Downtown Denver location is a meeting point for tourists. Denver has a large homeless population outside the hotel, but it's a friendly and well policed area. Good place to catch busses and many downtown events. Many amenities for business travelers. Across the street from Deloitte. Noteworthy details: A newly refurbished historical union station.
The entirety of the interior is very well designed to incentivize paying for goods/services and keeping poor, cheap, and homeless people out. Which is to say, the atmosphere is pretty awful. I understand that Union Station is a business operation as a whole, but it's a shame, because places like this in other cities can be real cultural gathering places for people. Rather than respecting residents of the city and their lives and history, Denver's Union Station seems meant to squeeze money out of tourists and rich patrons. There's nowhere comfortable or interesting to be inside the building without being ushered away by a host or police because you haven't paid for something at one of the shops. And the prices at the shops are of course tourist prices — i.e. expensive. All of this lends to the atmosphere feeling incredibly classist and hostile to gatherings that don't involve plans to spend loads of money largely, it seems, because of a not-at-all-veiled fear and loathing of the homeless population. Which again, is a shame, because it's a beautiful building that could host a great culture of conversation and shared space for people from diverse backgrounds.
This station is beautiful, but what isn’t beautiful are the elitist security detail that feel the need to critique how you sit on a bench. My friend was “identified” as we waited for another friend to come in from DEN. He was then harassed by not one, not two, but three security officers. Everything from laying his head back on the upright benches, to his shoe touching the bench when seated cross legged gained attention and a reprimand. I understand keeping the area safe and orderly, but it became obnoxious and honestly a waste of tax payer dollars. To make matters more awkward, when the initial security officer would make rounds, he would make long, sustained awkward eye contact with my friend. Let me be clear, I understand keeping things orderly in a public location but what feels unacceptable is intrusive profiling and subsequent interrogation and stalking behaviors from people who are meant to keep the area safe.
