Description

Welcome to Depot Park, the junction of past and future located in middle of Gainesville’s Downtown.

What was once contaminated earth, the residue from the site’s history as a rail yard, is now a blooming field of wildflowers and native plantings lined by decorative tracks that commemorate this former railroad transportation hub.

The vision for Depot Park was to create a contemporary public greenspace to serve as Gainesville’s “Central Park”. To be a signature city park located downtown and provide a space for public outdoor enjoyment unique to the city.

There is no charge to play at Depot Park.

This park was beautiful and had something for everyone to enjoy! The playground was so unique and very well maintained. The play structures were creative, colorful, and offered the ability to climb and play with curiosity. There is also a small splash area to cool off on the hot days. The playground was accommodating for all ages, even tiny tots. The walking trails were clean and well maintained. We were able to see a snake no worries, not on the path, on the side in the brush, and some pretty birds. There was also a sidewalk with nice art to enjoy, for kids. If you get hungry, there are a few places to eat as well, and of course the option to get ice cream bars! There is also a lot of space for picnics! My only complaint would be the bathrooms, but only because they weren't very clean. I assume it's just because the park was really busy, we were there on a Sunday afternoon.
Number 1 on my list for BEST playgrounds! Not only is the area beautiful and clean and well kept but the park was amazing. I couldn’t believe how awesome this park is. The splash pad inside which was just big enough with a shaded area for parents to sit at with fake grass! LOVE that! There are so many different areas at this park that you could literally spend all day here. The bathrooms were clean and they recycle not only trash but their water too! I almost want to move here because of how amazing and clean Gainesville seems. I wish we had this park back home! My whole family loved it and we will definitely be back!
The best park Gainesville has to offer. There is a short and long walking loop that connects to the 16-mile long downtown connector trail. Events are hosted periodically, but even when there aren’t events, this is a great place to walk around, meet up with friends, skate, see the sunset, picnic, play field games, etc. The boxcar nearby has drinks and music sometimes. Bathrooms and water are available next to the playground, although all close at 8:30PM.
I live taking my grandkids to Depot Park. Great for picnics on the lawn or under a pavilion. The splash pad is awesome and the kids of all ages enjoy cooling down under a spray of water here and there. The park sports lots of jungle gym types of enjoyment as well, including a construction train with slides a tunnel or two make from concrete culverts, swings and sand pits with cranes. Set up great for kids with disabilities too. That's a great plus! Love it! Love it! Love it! Playground: Jungle gyms, splash pads, sand pits are all handicap accessible Restrooms: Restrooms are roomy but could use more attention throughout the day by park works. Dog-friendliness: There is a walking/jogging trail available for dogs and people. Lots of stretch out room for everyone. Picnic area: Lawn is well maintained, so spreading a blanket is easy and clean. The pavilion has nice tables and benches. They can be reserved, but reservations aren't necessary. There are also establishments there where hot food can be purchased as well as items such as homemade soaps, jewelry, essential oils, and other items. It's a nice opening all in one place.
Best urban park in Gainesville. Pavilion with picnic tables, a large lake with several trails for walking or running and aquatic playground. There's a free 5K Park Run every Saturday at 7:30 am all fitness levels, walking or running. Close to the Hawthorne trail for those who are looking for a longer hike
Apparently, it is a water treatment and unfloodable zone that feeds off into sweet water. It's a great place for birdwatching, I'd say. Parking lot is filled. Make sure to get here early, bring water, and walking shoes. The sun is another level out here, only about a 1/10 of a mile there's shade along this track, wear a hat, sunscreen, and/or grab an umbrella.
Beautiful park! Lots of fantastic trails and sidewalks. A lovely area with a lot of cool places to hang out and catch shade. The amount of native plants was really cool to see. The sidewalks were nice and wide, no problem for my giant tricycle. Was here for the ride ataxia event. Thank you so much for hosting us!!
Hands down my favorite park in Gainesville. It's a great place to go for a walk, or throw a blanket out and read -- with options for sun OR shade. I love the seasonal displays and the cartoonish sidewalk murals that make the park feel very homey and personal, like a film decorating for different holidays and post their kids' artwork on the fridge. The Gainesville Parks and Rec staff is lovely. My friends and I meet at Depot Park *most* Sunday mornings to unicycle together @gnvunicycleunit on Insta for info, and when the park staff is out making their rounds, they always make a point to say hello to us.
This park is really cool. Great area for the kids to play. There is a trail that goes around the lake. The lake has great wildlife, from gators, to turtles, and birds. There's a place to eat and even a museum. Playground: The playground has all sorts of cool things to do. Rock wall, swings, slides, etc. Restrooms: There is a building next to the playground that is for restrooms Dog-friendliness: Definitely a dog friendly park. There are stickers throughout along with water fountains that are for humans and toward the bottom for dogs. Pretty cool Picnic area: There is a Pavillion area w grills and picnic tables.
This park is absolutely beautiful! It's has amazing staff, clean bathrooms, plenty of space, and great events! We attended the Gainesville VegFest today and we had a blast! The weather was not the best this morning but things got much better towards the afternoon. Highly recommend checking out this park. They also have a great play area for the children.
