Description

As the largest and most urban law enforcement agency in the state, the Des Moines Police Department has a strong commitment to community policing. We encourage our residents to help us address issues occurring in their neighborhoods and to participate in the resolution of their concerns. Our Neighborhood Based Service Delivery Program has been expanded, assigning detectives and Traffic Unit officers to neighborhoods to provide citizens with greater access to department resources.Our department consists of an authorized strength of 379 sworn officers and 110 civilian support personnel. The department is organized into two divisions: the Operations Division and the Investigations Division. Both divisions are commanded by assistant chiefs who report directly to the Chief of Police.

Not sure why the ARL has this number on their voicemail to help pick up animals. Very rude, unprofessional, and NOT pet friendly at all. I've had to call this number many times for strays and hurt animals and it seems like they just don't care. Hopefully they teach new staff how to be a little more caring and professional with animals if they are the are on a Animal Rescue Leage voicemail. Im sure if you were in the middle of the street hurt you'd like to be helped as soon as possible.
There was an accident in front of my house. The police were called. I was totally impressed with the office that showed up. I know how some people have been feeling about the police dept. at times. But Officer Kelly was so cool. He was patient with the man that couldn't speak English. He had his phone Interpreting for him. He listen to every word the man had to say. I don't usually write reviews, but this officer in car 2702 deserves 5 stars. I'd give him 10 stars if I could. He renewed my faith.
Excellent experience. My call to the department was quickly answered. Officer on the phone was very professional and polite. I was impressed by the quick response as they had an officer to my workplace for a relatively minor event in less than 15 minutes. The officer who responded was very polite, knowledgeable and helpful. Overall, very impressed with my experience with Des Moines Police Department.
The officers at DMPD treat their citizens with dignity and respect. I feel safe, respected, and heard when I speak to DMPD. God bless that officers that are willing to protect our community and listen to the voices of vulnerable populations. There are bad apples of course but there are very honorable officers within DMPD that have saved many from living in fear.
I came into the department to speak with an officer about an issue in my neighborhood. I spoke with Officer Ladd, and she was exceptionally patient, courteous, and polite. She got me a case number and listened to my concerns, and the low star review has nothing to do with her help. She would get an easy 5 stars from me. What does concern me is the aggressively overt political posturing on display inside this building. It made me extremely uncomfortable, and I imagine I can not be the only one that has felt this way. Some of the desecrated "flags" on display are so lazily made that they don't even include a full 50 stars. The shrines to authoritarianism inside this building take up more space than what they've even dedicated to honoring their fellow fallen officers, which seem a small afterthought pushed to the bottom of one of their cabinets under a massive "flag" with an incorrect number of stars that is nearly as large as all the memorial photos combined.
They fckin stole property of a guy legally taking pictures in public. Because he didn’t accept their unlawful attacks and with at least 8-10 officers on site the mob mentality kicked in. I might have punched that detective for stealing my stuff
Retaliation for filming in public and violating peoples rights. This department serves as an example as to why we need to abolish qualified immunity. Hold police financially and legally responsible for their actions.
Literally just had a guy threatened to shoot me with a gun older white male in a black Cadillac. Gave the wdsm police his plate and they said they would do something and then they called me back to say they will not be doing anything is this the reason people do not trust or want to help the police what a joke of police if it was any other race or gender bet they would have done something 2 times in a year they have let me down and showed they don't care cannot wait to leave this garbage state full of entitled Republicans
Very rude, almost like they do not understand they are dealing with people’s livelihood. Always refer different numbers instead of simply helping ,and being straightforward with their information delivery. Lack of professionalism. They did not process my updated information so I had a warrant for my arrest for no reason even tho I appeared in court AND paid my fees on time 3 months prior to finding out they had a warrant out for my arrest that the judge DENIED! They need to do their jobs just like trey expect citizens to take care of our responsibilities.
Officer arrived on site near Drake this morning , 10:30a.m. Elderly man had fallen and was injured. Officer was rude and belligerent towards the injured individual. Acted like the call was a waste of his time. No compassion.
