This place is horrible. Took my father who is a Diabetic w/ COPD, and a history of having 2 Heart Attacks and was experiencing fever and vomiting, loss of breath, and severe lower back and joint pain in his legs to the ER at 6pm. His medical history was either not reviewed or taken into consideration. They finally came to do his blood work, but did not give him oxygen, or fluids he was dehydrated. He should have been taken back to be monitored given his medical history. After waiting 4 hours and having to ask the front desk for oxygen because he was having trouble breathing, the security guard brought out the oxygen tank for my father. I approached the triage nurse to see if there were any updates on the tests. The nurse responded very rude to me stating that they are going to give him an IV with antibiotics. No one updated us.Then my father was finally called back to speak to a Dr. The doctor informed us that he would be ordering him to be admitted due to he had beginning stages of pneumonia, in addition to a sinus and UTI infection, and at this point he was incredibly weak and unable to stand on his own. Also that they would be giving him an IV with antibiotics, and some medicine for pain, as well as fluids. We were sent back out to the waiting room until they had a bed ready. The respiratory nurse came to my father while he was in the lobby, and discovered that the oxygen tank that he was given was not turned on correctly... My father was finally given a bed, and then began to vomit while laying down. Although his nurse Patricia was right across from him hearing him vomit and struggling to breath, she acted like she didn't hear him, or couldn't be bothered with him because she was engrossed in what she was typing on her computer. As I scrambled to locate a vessel that could receive his vomit, she finally came from behind her computer and handed me a bag for him to use. But that wasn't the only issue my father needed to be elevated so he didn't choke on his vomit. Apparently she was too busy to notice? I had to go adjust it so that he could be elevated to a comfortable position. I also had to dispose of the bag that he vomited in. She never assisted him. Shortly after this, his nurse Patricia came to set him up with an IV. She didn't ask him how he was feeling, although he told her he was in a lot of paid due to having sciatic nerve pain, and lower back pain, which the Dr was aware of and ordered pain medication for. She didn't seem too concerned about his condition, or the pain he was experiencing. She left without giving him any medications or fluids, only putting the tube in his arm. About 30 min after this, the respiratory nurse came around to attempt a breathing treatment. My father was unable to complete this due to nausea. Possibly because he's diabetic and hadn't been given any food for several hours? It was 12am. The respiratory nurse asked if any anti nausea medication had been ordered. The nurse advised that it hadn't, and she would call the Dr, which he approved. After this the nurse still didn't administer any medication for relief. But went on break instead. When the nurse returned, she came with anti nausea medication, and antibiotic, and fluids for hydration finally but no pain medication.. When she was asked why she wasn't giving him pain medication, she was very rude and responded stating that it's only given as needed, and that it's my or my dad's job to ask for it. I then reminded her that he told her that he was in pain, in addition, she had seen him sitting on the edge of the bed unable to lay down because the pain was so debilitating. He finally received his meds at 1am. The nurse also placed his food on the table next to his urinal that he had used without removing it and throwing it away. The treatment received was bad due to the neglect, lack of professionalism, and miscommunication by the hospital staff. Do not bring your loved ones here. They will not be in good hands.
I came from LA and we visited Joshua tree national park before i gave birth i was 37 weeks pregnant. After we went to the store close by to our airbnb my water broke. We called 911 since we are not familiar to the place and they referred us to go to Hi-desert medical center since it was only less than 5 mins away from the store. Its a small hospital so im a little bit worried since we don’t know the place and also if something happens. We are planning Already to go back to LA. But we don’t to risk it. And Thank God everything is good. Nurse Rebecca gave me a great impression she is very hands on until the next shift nurse Ashley comes. She is amazing too she never left me all night. Shes always on the clock checking on me and the baby. And also all the nurses that i had like sarah, kathy and consuelo. They are all so great. I can’t thank them enough they are very kind, gentle, helpful, accommodating, and wonderful. Thank you guys for making our trip memorable.
My husband went to the ER with what we thought to be a possible UTI needing antibiotics. The doctor did lab work and urine sample to check. After the urine sample came back positive for an infection the doctor wanted to do a CT Scan with dye contrast to rule out anything else. Scan came back showing a fistula. His bowls were going in to his bladder causing infection. He was admitted right away, treated with antibiotics and underwent major surgery the very next morning. Because of the reviews of this hospital and the talk around town I was so very concerned to have him have this major surgery in “what I thought to be a horrible hospital” but boy was I SO VERY WRONG! I did have a huge problem with the cleanliness of our hospital room which is the only reason I gave this hospital a 4 star, but I gave it a good clean myself which I would have even if it looked clean. But the Doctors, Surgeon, RN’s, LVN’s, CNA’s, were the absolute best I have EVER encountered in my life. I, myself have been in many hospitals throughout my life unfortunately Cedar Sinai, City of Hope, UCLA, Loma Linda, Eisenhower and so much more to mention and I did not encounter one, not one, incompetent, rude or incapable person caring for my husband. I could not have been happier with my husband’s care in this hospital and I am NOT the easiest person to please and I do not handle “stupid” well. I would HIGHLY recommend this hospital to my loved ones because I KNOW they would be in very good hands here. I did have so many questions and concerns about my husband’s care during my husbands arrival, admittance, stay, surgery, recovery and discharge and not one of my concerns were ignored but instead made valid, were thoroughly explained, very informative, always reassured and continuous communication took place. A HUGE THANK YOU to ALL who treated my husband during his nearly week long stay. Dr Olofson- ER Doctor Dr Spector- Surgeon Dr Navales- Resident Trevor- RN Rie- RN Manny- RN Danna- RN Heaven- RN Anthony- LVN Jan- RN Laniya- CNA Amber- Housekeeping and more. You ALL made a very scary moment, unwanted days and a concerned wife feel at ease. I would love to see you ALL again but hope I never HAVE TO. Above and beyond meeting OUR expectations. We are truly grateful. ~Mr & Mrs Williamson
This place is awful… I went here because I was having severe pain in my lower right abdomen and after waiting for 4 hours they took me back and put me through blood tests, cat scans and X-rays. After another hour they told me I had a hernia and referred me to a specialist. I took the paperwork they gave me to the specialist who informed me I did not actually have a hernia, but told me the area of pain was near my appendix. I went back to work as the hospital informed me nothing was abnormal other than a hernia and the specialist saying I didn’t have a hernia. While I’m at work I couldn’t stand, walk, lay down.. I had to crawl to my car to drive home, went back to Hi-Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree and they took me back and the nurse couldn’t figure out how to lay down the hospital bed and asked me to remain standing in the hallway until she could find help… I nearly fell trying to lean against a wall as 2 nurses struggled to figure it out… once they did a doctor walked in and asked me why I hadn’t opted for surgery the first time I was there to have my appendix removed. I told them it’s because they informed me nothing was wrong other than a hernia… the doctor panicked, came back and told me she would schedule me for surgery in 3 days… I told them I doubt I’d live that long. Another doctor came in and said I had to go to surgery immediately and rushed me down for an appendectomy. After my surgery I was informed I could apply for short-term disability from work by my Surgeon. So, my wife printed a form and I just needed my surgeon to sign it… I handed her the paper and she said, “I will sign this once you pay $300”. Not only did this place almost get me killed, they refused to sign a piece of paper to help me recover the 10 weeks mandatory time off they insisted without me paying them another $300.00 for a signature on top of an insanely expensive surgery bill. This place is dangerous.
I took my mom here while she was visiting because she was having a horrible breathing issue. When she was checked in and first evaluated, we were sent back out to the waiting area where children and other adults walked around sick. We waited for what felt like nearly an hour as people that continued to be called back before us up until I went up and asked one of the nurses why we hadn't been called back again, and she blinked at me owlishly and said, "you haven't left yet?" I asked her what she was meaning and said we'd been done about 20 minutes after we'd been sent back out to the waiting area AGAIN. Turns out everyone else had been seen as an 'urgent issue' and were sent to a hospital room, while MY MOTHER WHOM WAS HAVING ISSUES BREATHING was being overlooked, like she was invisible! Well my mom started having another bad breathing spell and we got sent BACK in and she was put on a nebulizer that had 30 minutes of liquid in it and was told to breathe it in until it was gone then we'd be free to go home. Once it was done, my mom still had little to no change to her breathing and we were told to sit in the waiting room so they can "observe" her for 10 minutes. After the time passed, I went to the front desk and asked if we were needed for anything else since my mom hadn't been checked on during the wait time and I was told we were set to go home. 20 minutes after we left, prior to getting home, we received a call wondering where we were at. The call was to say "we weren't done with you yet." and we asked if we needed to come back? We were told no, that a prescription would be called in for us to pick up at the Rite-aid that was close by. A week later we received a bill stating she owed the hospital between $1,200 to $1,500, which is because they didn't have the correct date on her birth certificate nor the correct plan from Medicare. Furthermore, their lack of the diagnosing of the situation or any concern over her health issues were minimal at best. Due to the lack of professionalism, had I lost my mother, your facility would now be facing lawsuits! Lastly, my recommendations for your facility will be VERY grim. To the other people thinking about going there and reading this, please beware.
While the nurses were all very kind and compassionate, I felt they were spread thin. I stayed in the ER for two nights with a broken ankle in severe pain and two nights post surgery in a private room. There were so many times in the ER when I needed help meds, bathroom, water, etc and there was no one around to help me. I would ask through my curtain if anyone was there to help and the physicians sitting at their desks would tell me my nurse would help me. From my perspective, it looked like the physicians in the ER didn’t help much at all and just listened to me cry while I was in pain. Oftentimes I would keep track of when I could get pain meds again broken ankle, 48 hours between accident and surgery, I was in A LOT of pain and the nurses wouldn’t even have written it down. A nurse I’d never met even came by on the day of my surgery and told me surgery wasn’t happening today. She hadn’t even looked at the schedule and she was wrong. She sent me, already in so much pain and fear, into panic for no reason. When admitted they gave me a cup of water around 3 pm and it wasn’t until 8 pm that I finally was able to get someone to get me IV fluids because I was so dehydrated. After surgery, my surgeon spoke to my partner briefly But not to me. The next day we had to ask several people to please ask if he could come talk to us and explain the situation and next steps. When being discharged after my surgery, it felt more like they were kicking me out and I didn’t feel like I had a full understanding of the drugs they were prescribing me, how to take care of my broken leg at home, etc. My first time taking high strength NSAIDS and opioids and no one even told me they make you constipated! Seems like an important thing to miss with a patient. It felt like the nurses, doctors, front desk, records staff, case workers, all the different teams weren’t communicating with each other and would give me different info. The surgical nurses were amazing!!! Very kind and helpful. Like I said, the people that cared for me for kind, hardworking, compassionate people. But the systems were not dialed in to have a well working machine.
Sad to say Hi Desert is awful sad for the new owner and patients .I'm a spinal cord patient I just had my 15th surgery 4 months ago and I'm having a nother surgery in July. I fell in walmart because I went into spazems, I was taken by ambulance sat they took me in Dr asked what was going on sent me to the waiting room he did give me a pain shot that did not work I laid on the hard benches for 7 hours Er doc came out I told him and you could see in serve pain I needed an iv and he said they where to busy to put one in.i did get Ruid but after 7 hrs I. Pain no help my husband took me to another Er where they checked my record and I was taken care of.
This place seems nice, but once you're home, the bills start piling up. Literally every little thing gets its own bill and they'll call you nonstop asking for the same info you've already given them a dozen times. When you ask the person over the phone what or why, they can't answer and will transfer you over to god knows where. Don't recommend going here.
Went on go x rays and monitoring of my heart after a horrible fall landing on my chest ...near the heart area. They couldn't be better. Thank you.
I delivered my son at this hospital and my family’s experience was phenomenal. All of the L&D nurses were wonderful and kind, but Katie and Ella were especially fantastic. We were there for four full days and felt comfortable and taken care of the entire time. The nurses offered us so much support and kindness. We were truly blown away by the experience. Our son is four and a half months old now so this review is a little belated, but I wanted to make sure I got around to posting it anyway. We’re so grateful to the nurses who provided such excellent care to us.
