Our Staff

The staff at Destiny Middle School is ethnically and geographically diverse:

- Teachers are 54% non-white, compared with the state average of 9%
- We have a diverse school leadership team, and non-teaching staff are 50% non-white including Asian, Black, Latino, and White ethnicities.
- Several Washington locals are returning home to staff the school; others come from all over the country: California, Missouri, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Washington, D.C., etc.
- 40% of non-teaching school staff are local to Washington.


Our Students

With an enrollment of 200 students, Destiny Middle School enrolls children from diverse neighborhoods in the Tacoma area. Students benefit from engaging with peers from Tacoma’s Eastside, Hilltop and South End neighborhoods as well as Lakewood, Spanaway and Puyallup. Our inaugural class brings a multitude of gifts and potential with 12% English Language Learners, and 18% utilizing Special Education programming.


Our families

Our families have been actively involved in the creation of Destiny. Our Advisory committee, consisting of 20+ families and community leaders met monthly to give the critical input and local context to the Green Dot Model to include the school name, colors, and community engagement strategy.
