In 1941, Travis Dickey opened the original Dickey’s Barbecue Pit® in Dallas, Texas, and it is still open and
serving guests.
Travis Dickey’s sons - T.D. Jr. and Roland - took over the business in 1967. In 1969, Dickey’s was a small
Dallas chain and within a few years, it became the largest barbecue chain in Texas. The Big Yellow Cup
quickly became a Dickey’s brand icon after its introduction in 1988.
Dickey’s began franchising in 1994. In 1999, Roland Dickey, Jr. joined his father and uncle in the business,
and in 2004, he became the third generation to helm our rapidly growing brand.
