READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE COMING HERE! I was referred here to get a scope of my stomach after I was in the ER twice in one week due to severe upper abdominal pain. I have Fibromyalgia and have been on NSAID painkillers for almost a year every day, so the concern was a stomach ulcer or ulcers. I was sent here to get that scheduled by the hospital. When I called, the receptionist was rude and said "We can't help you unless you have a basic visit first." I did not understand that, as I had hospital paperwork with the suggestion. I made the appointment anyway and left work to come, only for the doctor to tell me and my husband that he doesn't think the scope is necessary and it could be anything. My husband and I voiced how confused we were and the doctor said "I'd be happy to do it and charge you for it if you want to do it". We were shocked! This week, my primary doctor told me that his notes stated he told me the scope SHOULD be scheduled, which was not at ALL what was said! I am now working with another GI office which is great and would not recommend this practice to anyone who truly wants answers.
Just visted this location, the best experience I've received in a long time. Davee, I hope you don't mind me giving you a shout out. Her bedside manners were amazing, she was so passionate about her position and her love, care and respect of patients. I had a little anxiety, was hungry and had some unanswered questions about my procedure. Still hungry, but thank you for removing the anxiety! The day before I called the office with the same question and the lady that answered the same question simply said, if I don't end up in the hospital , I would know that everything went okay, really. I knew at that point, I was speaking with someone that was simply there for a paycheck. Passion over paycheck any day. Thank you Davee for being under the passion umbrella!!!
Dr. Goldmeyer, Dr. Marc Piper, and the entire team at Digestive Health Associates were first class across the board. I had recently had a colonoscopy done at their office, and the doctors and staff were on point with every detail from prep, to checking in, to follow up, and answering all my questions. They also followed safety protocols, everything was clean and sanitized, I felt very comfortable. I was a bit apprehensive about the procedure going in, but they quickly put my mind at ease. I would highly recommend the experience of Dr. Goldmeyer, Dr. Piper, and the entire staff at DHA for any procedure. Keep up the great work!
Was a patient for 7 years. Doctors are great here but the office staff for every location is incompetent and doesn’t truly care about the patient which translates to a bad experience overall. Unless your scheduling an appointment, you can never get a hold of a live person at any location and they can take anywhere from 7-days to 2-weeks to get back to you. Explained to the office staff that I couldn’t schedule a procedure for about a month until I could get help paying for it through my employment and was told that was fine. Unfortunately no one talks to each other at the offices and so because I didn’t schedule my procedure, which I couldn’t currently afford, they decided to drop me as a patient after 7 years. I will now actively try to discourage people from going here so they don’t have to deal with the heart ache and distress I am going through from having to find a whole new doctor when I currently am needing care asap. Hope this helps people but who knows. Good luck
Please stay away from this office. a lot of people are referred here because they do have a terrific doctor here i've been told, Dr.Gamarra. The rest of the office falls flat. I was referred here in 2020 due to some severe pain, and in desperation, I took the first appointment available. Bad choice. I was placed with Dr. Michael Piper, and although he comes off very friendly he's quick to rush appointments and brush off your concern. He scheduled me for any and every test imaginable which I can understand, he wants to rule things out, but the medical bills became astronomical. After every test I receive a short maybe 10 minute phone call with no resolution from the test and quick to sign me up for the next one. He was convinced I had Crohn's although my pain was in the upper part of my abdomen and I did an Endoscopy that was clear. After months of driving 40 minutes each way to the suspicious Southfield office, for a quick 5 minute appointment and no explanation or care for my needs, I was over it. I officially decided to stop going when he told me I needed to get a colonoscopy at the age of 25. Fast forward to now, October 2021. My ENT recommended me to this office for a different chest pain - Suspected reflux related Again, because of Dr.Gamarra's high satisfactory rate so I decided to try and switch. I called last week to try and switch, and the woman on the phone told me Gamarra was very booked out, and she would send him a message to see if he was not able to take me on. Today, I received the call that yes he was booked, and recommended I stick with Dr. Piper. I told her thank you and that I'd check out a different practice and we ended the conversation. After calling and speaking with my ENT again, I was told to try and see someone else in that practice. Against my better judgement, I called again to see if they had any openings for any other doctor as I wasn't a fan of Dr. Michael Piper. I got a different receptionist this time. The woman on the phone kept muting the call to put me on a "hold" and I could hear the woman's voice who I spoke to earlier in the day about Dr.Gamarra. She sounded upset about something, but I assumed it was unrelated and she wasn't speaking to my receptionist. I tried to explain to this receptionist I wanted to see a different doctor in the practice, ANY of them, because my ENT recommended it and I trust him. The original woman I spoke to earlier in the day took the phone from the receptionist I was speaking to in the most disgusted way and said "Didn't I call you earlier and tell you that Dr.Gamarra was booked and said to see Dr.Piper?" I calmly tried to remind her I was not a fan of Dr.Piper and was open to any of the other doctors accepting new patients. She then snarkily said "What happened to finding another practice? These doctors are ALL in the same practice. Why did you call back here?" Almost as if she was offended by my earlier remark stating I would check out different practices before my ENT informed me he prefers this office. I was stunned. I reminded her that it was because my ENT really highly recommended this office. I also asked why it was impossible to switch doctors? I've switched at other specialists/doctors offices before and never had an issue. The phone line was completely cut off and no one was listening to what I way saying. I disregarded Dr.Gamarra's message about continuing to see Dr.Piper because, as I had stated, his care was not for me. It seems like everyone at this office doesn't really care for the patients. There is simply no compassion or care for the patients at this office. The front desk staff is very argumentative and uninviting. Although some of the doctors do I'm sure provide great care, I simply hung up and went with a different office recommendation. Steer clear!
I will not recommend Digestive Health Associate for the following reasons: 1. Just to comply with patient portal, DHA have a home grown cheap portal and no one cares to either read or respond to questions you may post. Look for physicians, who use EPIC System My Chart. Cheap facilities do not use Epic System Nationwide Network. 2. I had difficult time connecting with Dr. Allan Cutler staff for scheduling the procedure. 3. My procedure was a routine exam and still have a copy of the prescription. All bills including the hospital bill shows procedure code for routine exam, which in my case is zero co-pay; Dr. Cutler is billing me for a wrong medical code. I have called Dr. Cutler billing office 5 times in the last 2 months and they still have not corrected and continue to bill me. Stay away from the Digestive Health Associate group is my recommendation.
Same thing happened to me as other customers. I was referred here by an in-network doctor, and 'Digestive Health Associates' claimed to be in-network - but they sent the specimen for pathologic analysis to a completely separate company in the state of Georgia, so the health insurance denied my claim and I'm being billed just shy of $1,000 out-of-pocket for their service. So unless you are a resident of Georgia, your insurance is NOT going to cover this place. Do not go here unless you want a surprise bill that 'Digestive Health Associates' will take zero responsibility for and your health insurance will not cover.
Staff is mostly incompetent and rude, waiting for my colonoscopy was like being in an assembly line and I had to wait 6 weeks to speak with the doctor about my results. I do not recommend DHA.
Took me 30 minutes to schedule a first time appointment. Not sure if the woman was distracted or what - but it was an odd experience. Cancelled the appointment due to never receiving any confirmation and being unsure. I was only asked for my DOB, never to confirm my name. I asked was my appointment time for X and she just said yeah sure. Probably won’t attempt to go back.
Went here for a colonoscopy last year, supposed to be covered but just today they billed me over a hundred dollars. When I arrived for my appointment, I asked the desk person to note on my chart that I have a DEEP phobia of needles. Done. I got changed and when I got to the first nurse, she started making fun of me and berating me for having such a fear. "Oh, here's the big baby who can't stand needles...see baby, its just a little needle while holding it up in front of me you a big boy now, right?" all in a thick jamacian accent. I saw the needle and didn't sleep for almost a week afterwards. I called and complained, I wrote a reply to their survey and complained. The ONLY thing I've ever gotten back from these Cretans is a big bill I wasn't supposed to get! HATE THEM and will not only never go back, they have made me re-think getting any more of these colonoscopy things ever again. If i die i die. terrible place.
