Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center opened in September 2011. The Center preserves 205 acres of mostly oak and juniper canyon and has 2 miles of trails.

To conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity

We walked the new paved path. The trail head starts at dogwood. You can choose to hike the looped trails that are in a natural area or walk the paved trail. There is an area that is being finished, but you can still walk through it. It’s next to the the road that is very busy, so probably not good for children. We enjoyed it very much and will be back. Great for bikes.
My wife and I visited Dogwood Canyon for a hike before flying out of DFW in the afternoon. Note that you must check in at the visitor center before going for a hike and there's an online system to register beforehand. It's a really pretty nature preserve and nice trails. Surprisingly hilly so makes a nice workout. We heard numerous birds but the spring foliage was out so hard to see them. Overall, a lovely little nature preserve and great spot for a nature hike.
It's my favorite trail, the distance is just right and you can walk it in about an hour. Good view and safe.
Our scout troop did a service project, and the staff were great. This place gets points for their mission too.
