So, in short this is my first and last time renting with Dollar. It is the Spirit Airlines of car rentals. The customer service was fine, considering there were over 50 people in line when we arrived. The wait was about 1-hour, so be prepared to wait and it is hot in the lobby. If you didn’t prepay your rental, or made a same day rental, or god forbid you intend to pay with a debit card, you will likely be turned away. Seems like they overbooked a lot of rentals. The car we got was brand new less than 300 miles and perfectly fine. So once we actually got to the desk we were good, minus another 20 minute wait outside. My advice: don’t prepay but do make a reservation so that when you get there in person you can just go to one of the other rental suppliers if the Dollar line is too long, because every other car rental desk was empty with comparable rates. I’d spend $50 more to not wait an hour standing after a flight. TL;DR the vibes were atrocious but we walked away with a car rental so what more can you ask for by choosing the cheapest rental supplier.
Dollar rent a car should consider having more employees at the desk when they know they will have alot of bookings. Wait is over an hour so if you’re planning on being on time somewhere do not rent from this place! 4 kiosk but only 1 employee serving 50+ people, this is ridiculous! I would’ve paid the extra to not deal with this but we booked through Expedia so we were stuck using them. Finally, we got to pick our rental up and the drivers seat was reclined all the way back and trash was still inside the vehicle. The price was not worth the hassle.
Rented a car. Paid for it in advance. Come to the parking lot and there are no cars. And no one to tell me what is going on. Came back to ask and the "manager" tells me that she had told me there were no cars. If there were no cars why would have I rented one from them? unbelievable the way people lie just to get their commission. AWFUL experience. Still don't know what to do.
Staff was friendly but definitely will not rent from them again due to the long wait time. Dollar gave the best deals, but I will just pay the extra money. I waited in line for an hour and 15 minutes. Glad we didn't have anything planned. The line was even longer then this after we got our rental, so I am sure those people waited for over 2 hours. You also need a credit card, debit cards are not accepted! They also charge $200 accidental fee, but you get it back once rental car is returned. They also ask about extra coverages like auto gas refill or additional insurance coverage if you would like to add.
We had a terrible experience. We reserved a car two weeks in advance. We.reserved a mid size SUV. When we got off the plane we were told it could be an hour or more to get the car. Finally after an hour we got a Honda Civic.. This is a much smaller car than we reserved. We were not the only ones stuck waiting. I had also said we did not want the insurance. I was told we would be responsible for any damages that were our fault. I agreed. When we finally got where we were going we noticed the charge for the insurance. When I had the chance I called the company about the insurance and was told I had to call billing after at least 24 hours after returning the car. There was a survey when we got home and it said they would contact us within 72 hours. When they did not call we called them. We have been told it will be 5-7 days before we hear from them. They did say there would be no up charge for the smaller car. There should be a refund for that. Do not use Dollar.
Update- Dollar should take care of its employees. Customer service reps are helpful but there is staff shortage and it is felt by customers and employees. The team was able to get us a car we reserved for before we missed our reservation. 10/06 - writing this while still waiting for a car we reserved. Waited for 2 hours but no midsize cars available. But the rep wants to charge us more money for the full size cars that have been sitting there while there is a long line of people waiting.
Is there a zero star option, I would use it. 2 hours and 10 minutes to get a car. Worth spending double to avoid this chaos. First picture is the line to speak to one of the two overworked agents, second picture is the line 90 minutes later to get the actual car.
The whole rental is a fraud. Be aware with Dollar rental company. I do not recommend to use their service. At rental station, agent forced customer to buy liability insurance for the car does not matter if you have comprehensive insurance which i repeatedly tell them that I already had. Their explanation is that company policy. At return station, nobody came to check the gas tank and give you the report on the spot. Instead, they simply take the car, send you away ASAP, and email you later the receipt with extra charge for gas rate $10.50 per gallon. I did put the gas back in FULL and check the meter before leaving the car and they still charge me extra 2 gallons. Surprisingly, their receipt show gas tank is 7/8 which is they only need 1 gallon but they still charge me 2 gallons. Anyway, my conclusion is the company is a total fraud, and they will get more of your money in every transaction they make. Please stay away from DOLLAR CAR RENTAL SERVICE.
Very long line, waited 1 hr to reach counter. Cashier was awesome. I accepted one price but was charged a higher amount for the insurance. Corporate does not care about its employees or customers otherwise they would have done something by now. Hertz and Enterprise had more workers than Dollar/Thrifty combined counter
I'm not a spiteful reviewer, but this was crazy. Not the clerks' fault. The system allowed way more rental volume than they could handle. The line was over 90 minutes. Then had to wait for a car to be brought. The car itself had something loose underneath, bald tires, and a grinding noise - probably the bearings. Gas tank was not full, but I was told to bring it back full.
